Nacho bar in Mangwon, Seoul with a non-alcoholic mojito: Macho Nacho

"A Mangwon Han River restaurant good for picnic takeout: Macho Nacho." The weather's gotten so nice and breezy lately, perfect for a picnic..! So I went looking for something light to eat near Mangwon Hangang Park and ended up at Macho Nacho. The Han River is honestly perfect for picnics, but if you've only ever done dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken), fried chicken, or pizza, how about switching things up with nachos this time?! It's a pretty unusual menu item, which made it feel fresh, and it was so good I left completely satisfied 💗

Where is Macho Nacho, and what are its hours?

Macho Nacho is on the 1st floor at 128 Huiujeong-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 17:00–01:00, and Friday, Saturday, Sunday 13:00–01:00. Closed Tuesdays.

It's less than a 5-minute walk from Mangwon Hangang Park, so it's in a perfect spot to grab takeout on your way to a Han River picnic.

Maybe because it's near the park, there were so many takeout customers. Even while I waited for my order, more and more people kept coming in for takeout — clearly a lot of people stopping by before heading out on a picnic! I originally thought about getting takeout for the river too, but since it was the weekend and the Han River was probably already packed, plus the vibe inside was so nice, I decided to just eat in the store.

Inside Macho Nacho: four tables and soft lighting

The inside of Macho Nacho is on the cozy side. There are three 2-seat tables and one 4-seat table, and thanks to the dim lighting, the atmosphere was really nice.

Just the right vibe for casually enjoying a beer!!

What's on the menu, including non-alcoholic drinks

Macho Nacho's menu has a wide variety of nachos and drinking snacks. From nachos with cilantro to woo-sap-gyeop (thin-sliced beef belly) and pizza nachos, you can also add whatever toppings you want. The drink lineup is diverse too — beer and soju of course, but also cocktails, non-alcoholic beer, non-alcoholic cocktails, and even non-alcoholic wine, so I thought it would be great for setting the mood even with people who don't drink.

There's a separate wine list too, for reference. I ordered the signature nachos and the black pepper grilled chicken with green onion.

The kitchen is open, so you can watch the food being made right in front of you. Watching the chicken get grilled with that smoky char, the smell alone was already amazing.

They pile cheese generously on top of the nachos and then torch it — just watching it made my mouth water 💕

Signature nachos: three sauces and a generous portion

Macho Nacho's signature nachos are loaded generously with cheese, bacon, jalapeño, tomato, onion, sweet corn, and more!

And there are three types of sauce on top, so just the nachos alone felt packed with flavor..!

The portion was bigger than I expected too. Plenty for two people as a beer snack, and I thought it would also be great taken home for late-night snacking while watching a movie.

To eat it, you break the nachos up a bit and scoop them up along with the toppings.

Salty, with the savoriness of cheese, the freshness of tomato and onion, and the kick of jalapeño all hitting at once — I couldn't stop eating this bold flavor combo haha

I had it with a non-alcoholic mojito that day, and both the atmosphere and the taste were really great.

How was the black pepper grilled chicken with green onion?

Macho Nacho's black pepper grilled chicken with green onion was genuinely delicious too. It seemed to be chicken thigh meat — really tender and juicy — and the sweet, fragrant seasoning had soaked in nicely.

On top of that it had a proper smoky char, so how could it not be good?

The fragrant, crisp texture of the green onion paired well with the tender chicken, and it also softened the sweetness of the sauce a bit — the balance was really nice.

The chicken portion was pretty big too, so together with the nachos it was basically a full meal haha. I came in wanting something light, but ended up walking out much more full than expected!

Takeout or dine-in at Macho Nacho: the verdict

Among Mangwon Han River restaurants, Macho Nacho feels especially perfect for anyone looking for takeout. It's really close to Mangwon Hangang Park, great for heading straight to a picnic, and the menu itself isn't a hassle to eat by the river. If you're looking for something a bit different, isn't this perfect?! Of course, eating in the store was really nice too. With the dim lighting and a cocktail, it seemed like it would make a great after-work date spot too.

I ate in the store this time, but next time I definitely want to get it to go and bring it to the Han River. If you're looking for a Mangwon Han River restaurant that's good for delivery or takeout before heading out to the park, or just a light beer snack, I fully recommend Macho Nacho 🙌
