Busan gopchang restaurant, Friday annex outdoor seats: Bupyeong Yang

In short

Bupyeong Yang Gopchang is an open-air (yajang) beef offal restaurant on the gopchang alley of Kkangtong Market in Jung-gu, Busan. Arriving on a Friday at 5:30pm, the outdoor tables at the main branch and branch two were already full, so the meal happened at the annex across the street: a small stone-pan seasoned gopchang, a bowl of rice, udon sari and fried rice to finish. For an outdoor table at Bupyeong Yang Gopchang, getting there before 6pm is the safe plan.

Where is Bupyeong Yang Gopchang in Busan?

Bupyeong Yang Gopchang is a Nampo-dong street-stall (yajang) favorite located at 17 Bupyeong 2-gil, Jung-gu, Busan, on the gopchang (grilled offal) alley of Kkangtong Market. It's a 5-minute walk from Jagalchi Station on Line 1, and it's open daily from 11am to 1am, with last order at midnight.

Kkangtong Market is famous for its gopchang alley, right? On a nice day like this, with a gentle breeze blowing, I really wanted to enjoy that yajang atmosphere. So I went to Bupyeong Yang Gopchang, well known as a top gopchang spot in Nampo-dong.

Friday at 5:30pm: can you get an outdoor table?

I visited Bupyeong Yang Gopchang on a Friday at 5:30pm, and the outdoor tables at both the main branch and the second branch were already full! They set me up right at the annex, just across the street. By 6pm on Friday evening, the outdoor tables were completely full and people were being sent inside. If you want that yajang atmosphere, I'd recommend arriving a bit earlier!

Bupyeong Yang Gopchang menu and what two people ordered

Bupyeong Yang Gopchang's menu has three main types: salt-grilled, stone-pan seasoned, and hotpot. A lot of people order salt-grilled and then move on to stone-pan seasoned, but we'd already been snacking our way through Kkangtong Market haha... so the two of us just ordered a small stone-pan seasoned gopchang.

The basic side dishes were cabbage salad, jaeraegi (young radish kimchi), sundubu (soft tofu), and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew).

Around 6pm it was full-on yajang atmosphere! The mood was so good that even just this was enough to get the drinks going. Such a great spot for a Nampo-dong yajang night out ㅠㅠ

What comes with the small stone-pan seasoned gopchang?

The stone-pan seasoned gopchang (small) arrived. They even laid down a splash guard so the sauce wouldn't spatter — nice touch! Staff came around and grilled the stone-pan seasoned dish for us. At the next table someone had finished the salt-grilled and moved on to the stone-pan seasoned version, and honestly the salt-grilled looked amazing too 😭

It's made up of yang gopchang (small intestine tripe), daechang (large intestine), and yeomtong (heart) — I love daechang, and there was a lot of plump daechang in there, so I was really looking forward to it.

At first there was no broth, but as it cooked more, broth gradually formed!

We also ordered a bowl of rice, and the slightly sweet seasoning went so well with plain white rice. Just looking at the photo again makes me want to eat it all over ㅠ

The daechang, yang gopchang, and yeomtong were all fresh and tender — genuinely delicious.

Great atmosphere, great taste — the ultimate drinking food, and highly recommended as a Nampo-dong drinking spot ...⭐️

Adding udon sari and finishing with fried rice

About halfway through, we added an udon noodle sari (add-in). At Bupyeong Yang Gopchang, you can add sari either from the start or partway through the meal. They come already cooked, so you can eat them right away once they've soaked up a bit of the sauce. The sari options are glass noodles, udon, and bunmoja (sweet potato starch noodles) — we figured udon would go well, so we added udon. Next time bunmoja might be tasty too!

And of course, you have to finish with fried rice, right?!

Staff cooked the fried rice for us right there, so we could just sit back and eat.

How long is the wait around 8pm?

By the time we finished drinking, around 8pm, the outdoor tables already had a waiting line, and most of the indoor tables were full too. As a well-known gopchang spot in Nampo-dong, if you want outdoor seating, you'll probably need to arrive before 6pm or be ready to wait...

Bupyeong Yang Gopchang, a top gopchang spot in Nampo-dong, nails not just the taste but that particular Kkangtong Market yajang street-stall atmosphere too. If you want to enjoy the cool breeze of yajang season along with delicious gopchang, I'd recommend Bupyeong Yang Gopchang on the gopchang alley of Kkangtong Market!
