As you walk along the shimmering waves of Gwangalli Beach, you’ll come across Extra Mile (엑스트라마일), a Gwangalli favorite that catches your eye with its stylish exterior. With its romantic atmosphere, it is always welcoming couples on dates as well as international visitors, so today I’m introducing Extra Mile, a great Italian restaurant in Gwangalli.

Getting from Gwangalli Beach to Extra Mile
Since it is right by the Gwangalli beachfront, it makes for the perfect route for a seaside stroll before or after your meal. From Gwangalli Beach, walk 4–5 minutes toward Gwangan Station from the Gwangalli Beach intersection, along the Homers Hotel and Olive Young line. If you take a bus, get off at Gwangalli Beach or Gwangan Station bus stop and walk 3 minutes. By subway, leave Gwangan Station on Line 2 through Exit 5 and walk straight toward Gwangalli Beach along the main road for about 3–4 minutes (around 250 m). It is on the back street behind the Gwangandong Ssangyong Yega The Ocean apartments, in the alley by the Gwangnam Police Substation.
Tucked among Gwangalli’s side streets, Extra Mile immediately drew my eye with its polished, stylish exterior.

It is popular, so it can be full during peak hours or on weekends. You can easily join the waitlist through Catchtable in front of the restaurant, then relax in the waiting area after registering.

Thoughtful details that make waiting fun
As soon as I entered, I found a dedicated spot along the left wall for hanging coats, with aprons ready to use too.
Extra Mile is an up-and-coming Gwangalli restaurant known for pizza made with dough aged for 48 hours and handmade pasta with sauces simmered entirely from scratch, without premade products.
Extra Mile prints illustrations on its table paper, so you can color them in while you wait.
As you leisurely enjoy coloring, even the wait is filled with little moments of fun and anticipation instead of boredom. I think women and children would especially love it.

I happily did some coloring too while I waited.

There is a self-service station to the right of the bar table, where you can freely help yourself to pickles, water, and tissues. The pickles were sooo good that I nearly finished the whole container—no secret there~~~~hahahahahaha.

Even the smallest details showed Extra Mile’s stylish sensibility and consideration. When I ordered a cold Coke, I was impressed that it came not just in a glass full of ice, but thoughtfully with a fresh slice of lemon. Pouring the Coke over ice, the bright lemon flavor mingled with the refreshing fizz and gave the meal such a clean finish.

Hot Honey Pepperoni and Birria Taco pizza, half-and-half
Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza
The Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza combines spicy pepperoni, sweet hot honey sauce, creamy mascarpone, ricotta, and pickled peppers for a sweet-and-spicy pie. It was so delicious that next time I would order a whole one! No wonder it is one of Extra Mile’s signature dishes—so, so good.

At Extra Mile, you can order a half-and-half pizza with no extra charge, and add a cheese crust for ₩4,000. My second choice was the Birria Taco Pizza, another of Extra Mile’s signature dishes.

This taco pizza brings together the rich flavor of Mexican birria meat, bright pico de gallo salsa, and smooth sour cream. It was delicious on its own, but since I like bolder flavors, I piled on hot sauce and liked it even more.
Extra Mile says its pizza dough is slowly cold-fermented for 48 hours, making it crisp on the outside, chewy within, and increasingly nutty and fragrant with every bite.
The deep flavor of San Marzano tomato pasta
The tomato pasta combines the deep flavor of premium San Marzano tomatoes with fresh basil and stracciatella cheese.
The gentle aroma of basil made it feel fresh, while the melting cheese blended into the tomato sauce—honestly, it was delicious enough to make me faint.
Extra Mile says every pasta sauce is simmered completely in-house without premade products: from tomato sauce slowly cooked with premium whole San Marzano tomatoes, to richly flavored cream sauce, to clean oil-based sauces that let the ingredients shine.

A Gwangalli date-night setting made for conversation
The tables are generously spaced, and the calm, restrained lighting lets you focus completely on your food and conversation. Couples on romantic dates and international visitors keep coming through the doors; once inside, the modern feel of the exterior flows gently throughout the room.
Keep in mind that writing a review gets your table one drink for free.
Why I recommend Extra Mile

After enjoying the carefully prepared food, I stepped outside to find Gwangalli’s night sea full of romance. A walk along the beach in the cool breeze, plus the sweet busking performances drifting in from the streets, made a wonderful food-filled day feel complete. If you want an unforgettable romantic date in Gwangalli or a lovely Italian dining experience, I highly recommend Extra Mile.
