My second visit to Extra Mile, a Gwangalli pizza spot I came back to because it was so good.
Extra Mile in a quiet alley near Gwangalli Beach
It is within walking distance of Gwangalli Beach. Apparently, Extra Mile was named after the biblical phrase “Go the extra mile.” The name was distinctive, so I looked it up. Literally, it means going an additional mile; figuratively, it refers to putting in more effort than expected or voluntarily giving extra care. I had finished my morning work and was hungry, so I found myself looking for pizza. I had been here once before—a place without a sign, but somehow with a sign? First, I looked at the entrance. It was familiar from my first visit, this Gwangalli pizza spot.

Parking note: you cannot park in front of the restaurant, and Boseong Private Parking Lot is nearby. We awkwardly parked by another villa. You should not do that, though. I looked around the yard, then took a photo of the entrance. Ah, I can see the sign here now… where, where? I thought it was a clock, but it was a sign! It says Extra Mile. Ohhh. Near Gwangan Station, it is a healing sort of space on a quiet alley. One step further—Extra Mile.

You can decide what to eat outside before going in. Extra Mile serves the deep flavors of classic Western cuisine: an experience of food and space. I fumbled around trying to find it on my first visit, but the second time felt familiar. Spot the deep-blue signboard and you know right away: this is Extra Mile, the Gwangalli pizza place.

Atmospheric plants welcome us. We came during the day and saw everything brightly lit, but I hear that the soft lights in the evening create another kind of mood at this Gwangalli pizza place.

Push and walk in. The owner said we could pick some, as long as we did not get hurt.

A comfortable interior of greenery and wood
The relaxed view through the wide-open windows and the green colors bring a sense of comfort.

The menu is printed front and back. It is in English and Korean, so it is easy to choose from. Lots of international visitors come here too. I went back to the self-service bar for more. Tangy and sweet—so good.

Drawing while the pizza bakes; once you order, the pizza goes into the oven.

So refreshing. I wish I could have it every day.

A place where even the waiting time is enjoyable.

Extra Mile is a cozy pizza-and-pasta restaurant near Gwangalli Beach. You can sit and eat alone here. There are mostly tables for two. It draws a lot of younger diners. Two parties were already eating, and the warm wood interior and soft lighting made it a comfortable space for a meal and conversation. I went for more pickles again.

They use premium Italian Caputo flour and traditional biga, a pre-ferment. Hot Honey Pepperoni comes with pepperoni, mascarpone, ricotta, and pickled peppers; Potato Pizza comes with Dubak potatoes, truffle oil, and bacon.

Freshly baked, crisp Gwangalli pizza and thick, rich pasta. Do not mix the pasta—scoop it up as it is—and take a big bite of the pizza for the best taste.

Hot Honey Pepperoni: a spicy pizza with pepperoni, sweet hot honey sauce, soft mascarpone, ricotta, and fiery pickled peppers. Potato Pizza: the mildness of Gangwon-do Dubak potatoes, rich truffle oil, and savory bacon all together—a premium potato pizza.

Tomato Pasta: a harmonious pasta with the deep flavor of top-grade San Marzano tomatoes, fresh basil, and stracciatella cheese.

San Marzano tomatoes, basil, and stracciatella. Low-temperature fermented, crisp on the outside and chewy within. The flavor comes alive the more you chew.
