Songdo café with a no-ice Immunity smoothie and matcha latte: Ugly

I went to Ugly Tongue hoping for a slightly different kind of smoothie in Songdo. At first I was a bit startled by the prices — over ₩15,000 for one smoothie????😲 But to cut to the conclusion, tasting it changed my mind quite a bit. It's the kind of place that made me think I'd rather skip two or three cheap smoothies and have this one instead.
Where Ugly Tongue is in Songdo, and its opening hours
Ugly Tongue is located on the 1st floor of J Block, right next to the neighborhood park in Songdo District 1.
From outside, the phrase "microplastic-free coffee" caught my eye. Beyond coffee, the menu is more varied than I expected — health smoothies, ice cream, salads, and more.

Inside Ugly Tongue: clean, compact and a little unusual
Stepping inside, the vibe felt a bit different from a typical Songdo café. Overall it's a clean interior done in silver tones.
Most of the tables are set up for two people, like this one.
It felt more suited to a quick drink or takeout than to a large café you'd linger in for hours. Plenty enough to sit and drink for a bit during a Songdo date, though.
What does the name Ugly Tongue mean?
Ugly Tongue apparently translates literally to "an unattractive tongue." That's probably why the logo shaped like a tongue stands out even more. The name is said to be inspired by the many different flavors our tongues can perceive. A concept about caring for both health and taste, with a name that's quite unique from the start.
How the Ugly Tongue menu is put together
Looking at the menu board, the concept is clear right away. There's coffee, lattes, and tea, plus smoothies, ice cream, salads, and sandwiches. The smoothie lineup especially stands out — from Body Build (protein smoothie) to Anti-Aging, Brain Booster, Diet, Relax, Immunity, and Circulation, you can pick based on what you want. The smoothies are made without ice, using fruit and powders instead. Maybe that's why they felt very! different! from! the usual ice-packed smoothies.
On one side of the shop, the tea selection is also neatly displayed.
You can also watch the drinks being made in the open workspace.
Reducing plastic use is another part of Ugly Tongue's identity.
What I ordered at Ugly Tongue

Yellow and white layers made up the Immunity smoothie, while the softly green drink beside it was the matcha latte. Right from the visual, it was different from your usual smoothie.
The Immunity smoothie, 16,000 won and made without ice
Honestly, when I first saw the price, I thought it was expensive. But the moment I took a sip, I thought, "Oh, this is different from a regular smoothie." What I especially liked was that there's no ice in it! It didn't feel bulked up with ice — the flavor and texture of the actual ingredients stayed strong to the very last sip.
It's built on mango and apple, with coconut water, honey, coconut cream, and turmeric powder added. A healthy flavor that still tastes great. Not very sweet, but delicious, smooth, and filling all at once. I found it genuinely surprising the whole time I drank it. Skip two or three cheap smoothies and have this one instead — that was the feeling 😂. Personally, it exceeded my expectations.
The 6,000-won matcha latte was surprisingly good
The matcha latte was also very much to my liking. Matcha lattes are often either too sweet or too bitter from the matcha itself, but this one hit exactly the right balance in between.
Just sweet enough, just bitter enough. And smooth, so I kept reaching for it. I said it was delicious the whole time I was drinking it. I came for the smoothie, but the matcha latte ended up satisfying me too.
The eco-friendly cup holder made from recycled paper, designed without any adhesive, left an impression too.
The packaging held both cups neatly, making it easy to take out.
Is Ugly Tongue worth it for a health smoothie in Songdo?
If you're after a health smoothie that isn't common in Songdo, Ugly Tongue is worth a visit. Tasting it, I could feel the difference from typical smoothies right away, in both ingredients and consistency. What I personally liked most was that it's made without ice. If you prefer smoothies where you can actually taste the ingredients over ones that are just sweet, this should suit you well. The matcha latte was satisfying too — not too sweet, smooth, and tasty. Next time, I'd like to try other smoothie flavors and the blue spirulina ice cream.
