My friend and I decided to meet halfway, so we picked Express Bus Terminal in Gangnam as our spot. Since it had been a while, we wanted to catch up over some beef, so I went looking for a good Korean BBQ place near the terminal. Today I'm writing about my visit to Ugojip, which I'd recommend for a Banpo beef get-together.

Where is Ugojip and how do you get there?

Ugojip is located in the basement of Banpo Shopping Town, one minute on foot from Express Bus Terminal Station. It's also convenient if you have plans near the terminal or are heading over from Shinsegae Department Store or Central City for dinner.

With how expensive beef has gotten, it's not easy finding a place two people can eat at without feeling the pinch. I liked that Ugojip has set menus letting you try several cuts together.

Is a basement BBQ spot smoky? Inside Ugojip

Since this beef restaurant near the terminal is underground, I worried it might feel run-down or poorly ventilated. But those worries turned out to be unfounded — the ventilation was great, the space felt comfortable, and the clean interior made it a place I'd recommend for group dinners too.

Even with the modern interior, the round tables and chairs give it an old-school, homey feel while still staying comfortable, which I liked even more. It seems like a good fit for a day when you want to sit back and eat beef casually, whether it's a date or dinner with a friend, rather than somewhere too formal.

What comes in Ugojip's 400g couple set for 49,000 won?

This beef restaurant near the terminal has a variety of beef menus and set options. Ordering a set meant we could try several cuts affordably, which was great.

There were two of us, so we ordered the 400g couple set. Couple set (₩49,000): usamgyeop + galbisal + toshisal + chadol doenjang jjigae. Ordered separately, it would come to ₩53,500 total, so the set saves you ₩4,500!

Usamgyeop vs galbisal vs toshisal: how the three cuts taste

The usamgyeop (beef short plate) is thin and cooks quickly, so it was nice to eat lightly from the start. The galbisal (rib finger meat) chewed tender with no toughness, and the nutty flavor of the meat itself really came through.

My favorite was the toshisal (hanger steak) — the texture was soft, and it had just the right amount of meaty aroma, which went especially well with the doenjang jjigae.

Chadol doenjang jjigae and the side dishes

The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) broth itself is on the spicier side, but with the chadol (thinly sliced beef brisket) in it, it came across more nutty and rich than harsh.

The mushrooms and zucchini that came as sides turned sweet once grilled, and paired well with the meat.

Does Ugojip work for a group dinner in Banpo?

Everything we ate was delicious, so next time I'd love to gather more friends and try the signature set for 3-4 people. With set menus like these offering a budget-friendly meal, it would also be perfect for a Banpo beef group dinner!
