I went looking for a hearty, filling meal in Namyangju and found a great chueotang (loach soup) restaurant. A rich, deep broth to warm you up from the inside — perfect when you're craving a solid meal lately! The exterior is kept clean and tidy overall, which gave a comfortable first impression. It looked like a good spot for a family meal or a hearty dinner, and easy to stop by while looking for a Jinjeop restaurant or lunch place.

Inside Chuojeong Namwon Chueotang: a Jinjeop dining hall with a solo zone

Once inside, the space was bigger than expected, so I could eat comfortably without feeling cramped. There are 4-person tables good for family or friends, and the spacing between tables wasn't tight either, so it was a relaxed place to eat. What stood out especially was a separate solo dining zone for people eating alone — great for eating solo without feeling self-conscious 😊 So this felt like a Jinjeop restaurant that works both for a family meal out and for a solid solo meal.

Overall it's a clean, spacious restaurant, easy to visit if you're looking for a Namyangju chueotang spot. One thing that left an impression was that this place practices real generosity toward war veterans 🇰🇷 — they offer free chueotang and pork cutlet to veterans, which warmed my heart while eating. Beyond a good meal, it felt like a place that shows genuine gratitude in a direct way.

The self-serve side dish bar

There's also a self-bar set up to one side of the restaurant 😊 Beyond the basic side dishes provided, you can freely go grab more from the self-bar whenever you need. It's nice to be able to top up side dishes without feeling awkward, and the area was kept neat and easy to use. Between the generous set menu and the self-bar, this was an even more satisfying Namyangju chueotang spot, a good Jinjeop restaurant and lunch place 💕

Menu board and the basic table setting

The basic table setting was also neatly prepared 😊 Lotus root side dish, salad, kimchi, and yeolmu (young radish) kimchi all came out, pairing well with the chueotang. The kimchi and yeolmu kimchi especially cleaned the palate nicely alongside the warm, rich chueotang broth. Overall the side dish spread wasn't too much, but felt like the kind of solid, no-fuss table setting you'd expect from a good Jinjeop restaurant.

The duck bulgogi (duck grilled in seasoning) was tender with the sauce soaked in well, making it a great side with rice!

The Jeju crab jang (crab marinated in savory sauce) was a nice treat, with the salty seasoning and crab meat eaten together with rice!

The crispy fried loach had a nutty flavor and satisfying crunch, and the loach dumplings (군만두) were crispy outside and moist inside — a good side dish to pair with everything else.

The freshly cooked pot rice was also delicious 🍚

The star of the meal, the chueotang, had a deep, savory broth that was really appealing, and eating it with the warm pot rice made for a filling meal.

After finishing the pot rice, you can pour water into the leftover pot and enjoy nurungji (scorched rice), which made for a great ending to the meal.
