Gasan bar in Seoul for a second round: yukhoe and suyuk at Yukhwang

In short

Yukhwang is a newly opened hanwoo beef restaurant and bar on the first floor of Hanra One&One Tower A, next to Gasan Digital Complex Station in Geumcheon, Seoul. Stopping by for a second round after dinner, the writer ordered yukhoe (raw beef tartare), a suyuk plate (15,000 won) of boiled domestic hanwoo brisket and shank, and a saero-tonic, and the plump octopus jeotgal served alongside made them wish they had ordered rice too. Quiet and clean, Yukhwang works as both a second-round drinking spot and a lunch place for Gasan office workers.

Visiting Yukhwang in Gasan Digital Complex
Inside Yukhwang, a Korean restaurant in Gasan Digital Complex

Looking for a place for a second round after work, a new spot popped up on my radar: Yukhwang, a new restaurant near Gasan Digital Complex Station.

We only ordered sides — a plate of yukhoe and a plate of suyuk — and honestly, this turned out to be a great lunch spot in Gasan too. Let's dive right into the honest review.

What Yukhwang feels like for a second round of drinks

Yukhwang's quiet restaurant atmosphere

Maybe because the building is newly built, the interior felt super clean and tidy the moment I walked in! The owners were all young and stylish too! No chaotic vibe like you sometimes get in the Gasan office district — everything felt clean and gentle in mood, so it was nice to come here quietly for a second round of drinks.

What we ordered at Yukhwang: yukhoe, suyuk plate and saero-tonic

We ordered a suyuk plate and yukhoe. True to the name Yukhwang (which means 'meat scent'), I was impressed that literally every menu item, from meals to sides, is a meat dish.

With a menu like this, drinks were bound to go down smoothly, so we also ordered a saero-tonic to go with the sides.

Yukhwang's basic side dishes: octopus jeotgal, seasoned lettuce, and seokbakji

The basic side dishes were octopus jeotgal (fermented octopus), seasoned lettuce, and seokbakji (radish kimchi). The bowls, the plating, even the taste — all neat and tidy.

And the suyuk we ordered alongside it! The meat wasn't sliced thick — soft and tender, delicious in a completely different way from the yukhoe.

Suyuk made with domestic hanwoo brisket and shank

Yukhwang's suyuk plate is made with domestic hanwoo brisket and shank. As part of their opening celebration, they gave us an extra half plate of suyuk for writing a review, ㅠㅠㅠㅠ — honestly the best suyuk of my life, so please go early and try it while you can!

The suyuk and octopus jeotgal combo was insane — can you see how thick that octopus is?? The plump octopus jeotgal made me wonder what kind of quality this was, and wrapped up with the chewy suyuk, I regretted not ordering a bowl of rice haha. Great as a drinking snack, but it suddenly turned into a total rice thief.

The side dishes were clean too, and the meat-and-greens balance was so satisfying at this Gasan Digital Complex favorite, Yukhwang! Nothing felt thrown together carelessly — everything came out with real care, which made it even better.

Table enjoyed as both a meal and a drinking spot at Yukhwang

Yukhwang, a place in Gasan Digital Complex that works as a restaurant, a meal spot, and a bar all in one! We'd already eaten a full dinner and came for a casual second round, but the dishes we ordered without much thought were so good I slapped my forehead... I can only imagine how good the other menu items are.

Where Yukhwang's beef comes from, and is it gamey?

A good meat restaurant should always list its country of origin, right? True to a Gasan Digital Complex favorite, Yukhwang uses 100% domestic hanwoo. Suyuk can easily end up smelling off if not done right, but somehow there was no gamey smell at all, and it was delicious!!!!!!

I visited fairly late in the evening, close to closing time, and the yukhoe was genuinely fresh!!!!! Tasting it, I immediately understood what their slogan stands for!

Final spread at Yukhwang in Gasan Digital Complex

If I worked in Gasan, I feel like I'd be flirting with the idea of coming here for lunch all the time — a real Gasan Digital Complex lunch favorite. When it gets cold later, I'd like to come back for a bowl of gomtang (bone broth soup). Both the food and the atmosphere won me over at this Gasan favorite, Yukhwang, and it's a place I'd genuinely want to revisit — recommending it honestly >,<
