Melanzane ragu pasta at a Yongin family restaurant: Rustic Smokehouse

I was looking for a family restaurant near the Bojeong-dong café street and ended up at Rustic Smokehouse Yongin Bojeong Branch. It's close to the Bojeong-dong café street, so it's easy to stop by a café afterward, and there's a stream (Tancheon) right in front, making it a nice spot for a meal plus a walk. Most importantly, we visited with our two-year-old, and they had a baby chair and baby dishware ready, which made eating with a toddler much easier. Rustic Smokehouse Yongin Bojeong Branch sits right on the Bojeong-dong café street. We parked directly in front of the restaurant — there's parking space right outside, so it was convenient to visit by car.

Rather than just eating and leaving, it's a good spot to build a whole day around: grab coffee on the Bojeong-dong café street or take a walk along the Tancheon stream.

Inside Rustic Smokehouse: an American West look

The moment we walked in, the vibe felt a bit different from a typical family restaurant.

The wood-toned space is decorated with framed art and various props throughout, and there were even cowboy hats on the wall, giving it a bit of an American West smokehouse feel.

The seating was also more spacious than I expected, so it looked like a good fit for a family meal or a larger group.

And they had a baby chair and baby dishware ready. When a place lacks a chair or dishware for kids it can be surprisingly awkward, so having these on hand made dining with our two-year-old much more comfortable.

What's on the Rustic Smokehouse menu?

With BBQ front and center along with pasta and other dishes, it looked like a good place for a group to pick according to their own tastes.

We ordered the All Day BBQ Set B that day. It's a Two Meat BBQ + Pasta combo, good for three people to share, priced at 42,000 won. You get to choose two meats for the BBQ, so we picked pulled pork + brisket, and for pasta we chose the melanzane ragu pasta.

How much meat comes in the Two Meat BBQ?

Once the food arrived, the BBQ plate turned out to be quite a bit more generous than I expected.

The plate had a hearty amount of both pulled pork and brisket, along with coleslaw, dinner rolls, and french fries. The meat portion in particular was bigger than expected, and there were plenty of fries too, so it was quite filling shared between three of us.

Both meats were lightly seasoned rather than heavily salted, so they were easy to eat without feeling too rich. We tried them with sauce on the side, and also stuffed some into the dinner rolls with the sides — it was nice being able to eat them different ways depending on mood.

The dinner rolls came with 4 as a base, but we ended up wanting more and added 2 more. The extra rolls were 1,000 won for 2.

A slightly spicy sauce, ketchup, and pickled radish came as standard, and jalapeños and sliced onion were also provided. You can grab more sauce and sides as you like from the self-bar.

We split a roll in half, stuffed it with meat, added onion slices and jalapeños, then added sauce to taste.

Taking a big bite, the meat, onion, jalapeño and sauce all came together and it was genuinely delicious.

We also tried loading up with a ton of meat for a meat-heavy version, and eating it that way, the rolls disappeared in no time haha.

What the melanzane ragu pasta tastes like

The melanzane ragu pasta we ordered alongside also turned out to be a bigger portion than expected. It came topped with large chunks of eggplant, and the tomato base with a hint of cheese made it soft and easy to eat overall.

And it wasn't spicy at all! Since we were dining with our two-year-old, we scooped out a bit of the noodles and sauce and fed some to her since the pasta was mild enough for a toddler. Ordering both BBQ and pasta together meant we could alternate between meat and pasta, making it a pretty filling meal.

This visit to Rustic Smokehouse Yongin Bojeong Branch let us enjoy BBQ and pasta together, and the portions overall were generous enough to work well for a group. In particular, having a baby chair and baby dishware ready made it a comfortable spot for families dining with kids, like us. The All Day BBQ Set B we ordered let us enjoy pulled pork and brisket along with pasta, and it worked out well split between three people.
