Sunae Station Korean BBQ where skirt meat comes last: Jeju Monteurak

In short

Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch is a Jeju black pork grill restaurant a 5-minute walk from Sunae Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a Sunday evening the order was two servings of pork belly (ogyeopsal), one serving of skirt meat (galmaegisal) and kimchi fried rice, and the staff grilled the belly first, then laid the skirt meat on the grill once about half of it was eaten. Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch suits anyone who wants hot meat from the first bite to the last.

Where is Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch, and is there parking?

I went to Jeju Monteurak Sunae Branch, where you can enjoy Jeju black pork in Bundang. It's within a 5-minute walk of Sunae Station, and parking is free for 1 hour 30 minutes, so it's easy whether you come on foot or by car!

It's on the ground floor, and there's a dol hareubang (stone grandfather statue, a Jeju symbol) out front, so it's not hard to find. My husband had actually been here for a company dinner and liked it, so he was happy when I suggested going today haha.

The cute little hareubang and the entrance full of Jeju vibes ㅎ_ㅎ I saw a banner saying soju, beer, and highballs are ₩500 on Fridays, so now I'm thinking I need to come back on a Friday too haha.

Sunday evening at Jeju Monteurak: atmosphere and seating

Inside, the overall mood is quiet and clean. I arrived on a Sunday evening so it wasn't crowded, but the seats are spaced out generously, so I don't think it would feel chaotic even on a Friday or Saturday.

The order: pork belly for two, skirt meat for one, kimchi fried rice

We ordered two servings of pork belly and one serving of skirt meat, and of course rice can't be left out haha, so we added kimchi fried rice. The pork belly here is genuinely delicious, so I definitely recommend ordering it!

Side dishes and dipping sauces served with the black pork

They set out side dishes too, and there were more varieties than a typical BBQ restaurant, including vegetables I love — bracken fern, wild garlic leaves, white kimchi, scallion salad, and more. The sauces were also cleanly arranged: salt, salted shrimp, wasabi, and ssamjang. The bracken fern was the highlight for me <3

Once we ordered the meat, they immediately brought out the charcoal and grilled asparagus and mushrooms first. Along with a plate to set cooked meat on and melchejeot (fermented anchovy sauce) that's just salty enough for dipping meat, the whole setup felt seamless! The vegetables tasted as good as they looked, so we finished them off even faster than the meat.

Does the staff grill all the meat for you?

At Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch, staff grill the meat from start to finish. And here's the pork belly and skirt meat all set up ^ㅠ^ I thought the belly might be a bit fatty, but once it's grilled it's honestly the perfect ratio... please, just order it.

Whenever I grill meat myself I always burn it, so my husband ends up doing all the grilling and barely gets to eat — which is why I love BBQ restaurants that grill it for you like this.

White kimchi grilled right beside the pork

They grill asparagus along with the white kimchi that was set out earlier, which seems to be a signature move here. Grilled white kimchi is cleaner and pairs better than grilling the red kind, I think ㅠㅠ. They kept flipping the meat every which way, grilling it with real care.

Pork belly first, skirt meat added halfway through

Chew-relup... And even though they could have grilled all three servings at once, they grilled the belly first, and once we'd eaten about half, they added the skirt meat — which I thought was a really thoughtful touch ㅎㅅㅎ. At a BBQ place near Sunae before, they grilled all three servings at once and by the end I was eating tough, overcooked meat... but here it feels like they let you enjoy the meat at its best from start to finish.

Kimchi fried rice in a hot stone pot

While we waited, the kimchi fried rice arrived. Piled sky-high with minari (water dropwort) <3. I mixed it up right away and took a bite. It came in a stone pot, so there was a bit of crispy scorched rice at the bottom — exactly my type ㅠㅠ.

It came out sizzling hot, so alternating a bite of meat with a bite of fried rice, everything stayed warm all the way through. I feel like it was still warm right up until we left, lol.

After a few spoonfuls of rice, the meat was cooked before we knew it. It's been a while since I've seen pork with such a rosy color!! Eaten with the scallion salad, three servings disappear like nothing.

Once the vegetables and meat were cooked, they placed them on the hot plate right when the juices were at just the right level, so even the very last piece stayed warm and juicy. The staff really do keep circling around and paying attention nonstop, so there's no way it could taste bad.

And then the skirt meat went on. They don't cut it up beforehand and add it in whole chunks, which I think helps it keep more moisture and turn out even more tender ㅠ.

It was one of the best-textured skirt meats I've had! Eating the skirt meat after the pork belly, the richness gives way to a lighter, cleaner taste, so you never get sick of it.

Who is Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch best for?

If you're looking for a black pork restaurant near Sunae Station that grills the meat well for you, I recommend Jeju Monteurak without hesitation ><. Most of the other customers when I visited were families, so while it's great for a company dinner, it also feels like a good spot to bring your parents for a nice meal of meat. The end <3
