Lately I've been craving clean, calm Korean food over anything too spicy or heavy, and I found a Gwacheon restaurant that hit the spot exactly. I figured a place specializing in miyeokguk (seaweed soup) would just mean one bowl of soup, but Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch turned out to be more of a full set-meal restaurant, with a whole table of neat side dishes alongside the soup. Especially good if you're looking for somewhere to take your parents — highly recommend. Here's the review.

Haenon Miyeok seaweed soup set menu and prices
Haenon Miyeok specializes in seaweed soup, and there's a really wide range of types to choose from.

- Boneless flounder seaweed soup set ₩19,000
- Scallop seaweed soup set ₩19,000
- Pollack seaweed soup set ₩19,000
- Mussel seaweed soup set ₩19,000
- Beef seaweed soup set ₩20,000
- Tongyeong oyster seaweed soup set ₩25,000
- Sea god seaweed soup set ₩29,000
- Sea urchin roe seaweed soup set ₩30,000
It's not just a plain bowl of soup — it comes as a full set with several side dishes, so the table ended up much more generous than the price alone suggested. I came looking for a good seaweed soup restaurant in Gwacheon, and with this many options on the menu, it seems like a great place to come with a group too. We ordered the boneless flounder seaweed soup and the Tongyeong oyster seaweed soup.
Boneless flounder set (19,000 won) vs Tongyeong oyster set (25,000 won)

The seaweed soup comes in a generous, sizable earthenware pot, perfect for mixing hot broth with rice 👍 I also liked being able to pick a soup based on the main ingredient — flounder or oyster, for instance.

What banchan comes with the set meal?
Personally, what impressed me most at Haenon Miyeok wasn't just the seaweed soup but the accompanying banchan! They didn't feel like filler dishes just to pad out the count — each one was neat and delicious, so my chopsticks kept reaching for more. The scallop salad, fried eggplant, seasoned greens and japchae were all good 🙂🙂

Seasoned grilled flounder, salad, and japchae on top of that. I came for one bowl of seaweed soup and left feeling like I'd had a proper full Korean spread in Gwacheon, haha.

How the self-serve banchan refill bar works
If you need more side dishes, there's a self-serve bar set up on one side of Haenon Miyeok where you can freely help yourself.

When a side dish is good you always want seconds, and it was surprisingly convenient not having to flag down staff to ask for a refill.

Looking through recent reviews, I get why people rave about the banchan and the self-serve bar. Lately when looking for somewhere to take the family out in Gwacheon, there's no shortage of BBQ or Western restaurants, but places for a clean, proper Korean meal like this are surprisingly hard to find.

Why Haenon Miyeok works for a family meal in Gwacheon
For that reason, I'd recommend Haenon Miyeok to anyone looking for a good Korean restaurant or seaweed soup restaurant in Gwacheon. The food overall is clean and well put together, and from the soup to the side dishes it's a filling meal — a plus is that it works for any age group at the table.

Next time I'd love to come back with family, especially my parents.

This feels like the kind of place I'll think of on a day when I want warm seaweed soup and good side dishes instead of anything fancy :) If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant in Gwacheon, give Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch a try. Recommended for family meals or anyone hunting for a seaweed soup restaurant in Gwacheon to visit with parents :)
