Gwacheon roastery café with Peru Pink Bourbon drip coffee: Minimale

In short

Minimale Coffee Roaster Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town Branch is a roastery bakery café on Gwacheondae-ro 7-gil in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi. On a return visit at 2:30pm on a weekend, the order was a hot Helsinki Latte, the Daily Drip Peru, a British Einspänner and hotteok babka (sweet pancake-flavoured babka), and the sofa seats were comfortable enough for an hour and a half. With 3 hours of free parking, Minimale is a Gwacheon café you can settle into without watching the clock.

Back at Minimale Coffee Roaster in Gwacheon: what has changed?

This Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town branch was actually the very first Minimale location I ever visited. I liked the coffee and bakery so much that I went on to visit the Yangjae main branch and the Yeoksam branch afterward.

This time I came with my husband around 2:30pm on a weekend, and coming back after a while, it felt like a completely different place.

How do I put it — it felt like a level up. Compared to last time, the artwork on the walls had changed and the bakery lineup was different too.

The showcase display looked more organized as well.

Minimale isn't a space that goes all out on flashy interior design, but if you look closely, it actually feels like a place that cares a lot about paring things down.

By leaving only what's necessary, the space itself ends up standing out even more.

Weekend afternoon seats, sofa spots and parking at Minimale

Minimale Gwacheon was pretty busy even at 2:30pm on a weekend, and parking is free for 3 hours. There were no seats free, so I thought about sitting outside for a moment, but decided to wait it out instead.

Luckily, a sofa seat opened up before too long and we grabbed it. Honestly, I'm not usually a fan of low sofa seating.

It looks comfortable, but once you sit down the posture is often awkward, making it hard to stay seated for long. But the sofa at Minimale Gwacheon was way more comfortable than expected.

I'd only planned to have one coffee and leave, but before I knew it, sitting there comfortably, an hour and a half had passed haha. Thankfully with 3 hours of free parking, I could relax without feeling rushed.

What we ordered at Minimale Gwacheon

  • Helsinki Latte
  • Daily Drip Peru
  • British Einspänner
  • Hotteok Babka
Helsinki Latte, Daily Drip, Einspänner, and hotteok babka all together

Helsinki Latte, served hot

This time I ordered Minimale's Helsinki Latte hot. It's been a favorite of mine since the first time I tried it, and having it warm brought out a different kind of charm.

The Helsinki Latte ordered hot

The smooth, nutty flavor blended really well with the warm milk — genuinely delicious. It felt like exactly the kind of drink you'd want to sip outdoors in the middle of winter, snow piled up around you, cupping the mug in both hands and blowing on it to cool it down.

I thought this could easily replace hot chocolate on a cold winter day.

It really suits my taste.

The new Daily Drip: Peru Pink Bourbon

The other new thing I tried this time was the Daily Drip. The beans that day were Peru El Laurel, a Pink Bourbon variety with washed processing.

The tasting notes listed apple, brown sugar, milk chocolate, and roasted almond. Trying it myself, it was even better than expected.

Minimale's coffee felt bolder than before, and since I personally like a stronger cup, that worked even more in its favor.

I think I'll be reaching for this new Daily Drip again from time to time.

British Einspänner

We also ordered the British Einspänner.

Sipping the soft cream together with the coffee gave a taste that was sweet yet still rich in coffee flavor.

Hotteok babka, ordered again

And we ordered the hotteok babka again — I'd loved it last time.

A slice of Minimale's hotteok babka

Since it was something I'd tried before, my hand just naturally reached for it.

The sweetness of brown sugar and cinnamon, combined with nutty roasted nuts, really does recall hotteok (sweet Korean pancake), just like the name promises.

My husband tried it too and said it was delicious. It really is a bakery item at Minimale that pairs well with coffee.

Is Minimale Gwacheon worth a second visit?

On my first visit, my main impression was that this was a roastery café with great coffee and bakery. This time, I felt like it was a café where you could also comfortably enjoy the space itself. Especially given that the surprisingly comfortable sofa kept us there for an hour and a half, it really does seem like a good spot to settle in and rest for a while.
