Baedagol Bakery House: a big Wondang café visited with a five-month-old

There's a family temple near Jangheung Tourist Complex that I used to visit alone, and this big Wondang café was always nearby — but this time I went with my mom and my daughter, just the three of us, for a cozy trip to Baedagol Bakery House. With a spacious parking lot, baby chairs, and a diaper-changing table, it was a great Wondang café to visit with a baby.

Main lot full on a weekday afternoon? Use the 2nd and 3rd lots

I had to bring the baby in a stroller, and the sun was pretty strong that day, so I was a little worried — sure enough, even on a weekday afternoon the main lot was completely full 😅

The 2nd and 3rd lots, which are bigger and even have EV charging, are right across from the café — but you have to cross the road, so if you're coming with a baby, hold hands tight.

One reason for Baedagol Bakery House's popularity is its lush green garden, and this season — somewhere between summer and fall — is the best time to enjoy it, so a lot of people were drinking their coffee outside 💚

If it had just been me and my mom, we obviously would've had coffee in the outdoor garden, but with our little one along, instead of the outdoor seats we settled into the cool first floor, where you can admire the plants through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Where the baby chairs and diaper-changing table are at Baedagol

She's still only 5 months old so we're still using the stroller, but once she starts on baby food she'll surely want to sit in a chair — and as a rookie mom visiting this Wondang café with baby, the first thing my eyes went to was the spotlessly clean baby chairs.

And even though I'd been to this big Wondang café several times before, I never even knew there was a diaper-changing table until after I had my own baby. I forgot the waterproof pad that day, but the table was wide and wiped clean, so I just laid her down anyway 😝

Second-floor window seats and the private room

The second floor is up a flight of stairs, so with the stroller I just went up to take a look without sitting — the window seats up there, with an even more open view than downstairs, were so popular there wasn't a single empty spot.

There's also a room-like private space that only one group can use at a time, so if you're coming to this Wondang café with a baby or just want to drink your coffee quietly, I'd recommend sitting on the second floor over the first ‼

Half-price leftover bread from 7 p.m.

Baedagol Bakery House is as famous for its delicious bread as it is for its lush green outdoor garden 💚 All the bakery items are made in-house with organic flour, and since bread baked that day is meant to be sold that day, from 7 PM every evening whatever's left gets sold at half price (excluding refrigerated items like cakes and tarts).

I've only ever come during the day so I can't say for sure, but there are almost no tables without bread, just drinks, so I wonder whether there's actually any bread left by evening...? Because a few items were already sold out.

There's plain bakery bread, sweeter dessert breads, and meal items like sandwiches and bagels that are great for a light brunch, so it can satisfy all kinds of tastes.

Since it was lunchtime we picked a hot dog and salt bread, but personally the fresh fruit slice cake and the Basque cheesecake were the best. This café is known for its Warreo series topped with seasonal fresh fruit, so the fruit on the cakes is always sweet and fresh too.

My mom has a sweet tooth, so her usual go-to would obviously be the fresh melon Warreo snow ice, but since she was eating it with bread she went with a latte instead.

Häagen-Dazs caramel latte, 10,000 won

She said she'd have it with bread, then picked this fiercely energetic ice cream latte anyway — that's my sweet-toothed mom for you. Honestly I assumed it would just be a latte with one scoop of Häagen-Dazs on top, but it came out way heftier than expected, and we both did a double take 😅

Like an affogato, it comes with a shot of espresso on the side too, but the Häagen-Dazs ice cream has such a strong presence that you need to eat some with a spoon first before pouring the shot in.

Since it's not a plain latte but a caramel latte, there's a generous caramel drizzle over the ice cream, plus caramel syrup lining the bottom of the drink, so you can enjoy the sweetness from the first sip to the last.

Iced Americano, 6,000 won

After a while she decided she actually preferred it more like a sweet milkshake, so in the end I poured the accompanying shot into my own Americano instead.

They use special-grade beans, so the Americano was rich and nutty. Since even the most basic Americano is this good, pretty much any latte here is a safe bet 💕

Hot dog, 10,000 won

I originally wanted the scallion cream cheese bagel, but the customer right in front of me grabbed the very last one, so I went with my second choice: the hot dog.

It wasn't fresh out of the oven so honestly I didn't expect much, but this was genuinely delicious 👍🏼 Especially the sauce on the hot dog — seriously so good! Sweet yet spicy, it went well with the mild bread and the chewy, savory sausage, and it was packed full and super filling as a meal.

Salt bread, 3,000 won

The salt bread I always order whenever I come to this big Wondang café. It's cheap so there's no price pressure, and the outside is crispy while the inside is chewy with a nice butter pocket — even my mom, who was trying salt bread for the first time, loved it.

But rather than eating it right away, it's even better if you warm it for 30 seconds to a minute in the mini oven at the self-bar.

Is Baedagol Bakery House worth a return trip with a baby?

It's a pretty café with lots of greenery to admire, but on top of that, easy parking plus baby chairs and a diaper-changing table make it a great Wondang café to visit with a baby — so I plan to keep coming back with my daughter for our little dates at Baedagol Bakery House 💚
