Mangwon noodle spot with ₩6,000 weekday clam kalguksu: Pyeongidambaek

In short

Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch (평이담백 뼈칼국수 본점) is a Korean bossam and kalguksu restaurant on Yanghwa-ro 7-gil, between Hapjeong and Mangwon stations in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekend lunch visit the order was the medium bossam (boiled pork, 42,000 won) and the new clam kalguksu (noodle soup, 12,000 won, cut to 6,000 won on weekdays): the pork was sliced thick and generous enough that two people left a little behind, and the clam kalguksu kept turning up more clams the further down the bowl you went. For a Korean bossam restaurant one block off Mangwon-dong's main street, Pyeongidambaek is the answer.

Went on a date in Mangwon-dong and got a craving for soft, melt-in-your-mouth bossam (boiled pork wrap), so we wandered a bit toward Hapjeong Station and had a delicious lunch 🩷✨️ It's not on Mangwon-dong's main street but just across from it, between Hapjeong and Mangwon stations — a Korean restaurant known for bossam, Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu.

This time we had the bossam and the clam kalguksu, but they also serve a hearty bone kalguksu, bibim kalguksu, and even bone broth soup, so it's a Hapjeong Korean restaurant that can satisfy all kinds of cravings 👏

Where is Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu, and what is the restaurant like inside?

Exterior of Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch on Yanghwa-ro 7-gil

About a 6-7 minute walk from Mangwon Station gets you to Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu. The sign is in Chinese characters, so just look for the words 뼈칼국수 (bone kalguksu) to find it.

Inside there were seats reaching pretty far back, so the place is bigger than it looks — I tried to snap photos avoiding seated customers as much as possible, both going in and heading out.

This spot is a bit off from Mangwon-dong's busy main line, so foot traffic didn't look heavy, but when we visited for weekend lunch, more than half the seats were already filled!

Large menu board posted on the wall

The menu was posted large in several spots on the wall, so it was easy to spot.

Glass kitchen section with a note about aged noodles

Near the kitchen there was a glass section noting that they use aged noodles. I guess that's where they make the noodles!

  • Bossam (boiled pork): Large ₩49,000 / Medium ₩42,000
  • Anchovy kalguksu with bossam order: ₩5,000
  • Bone kalguksu: ₩12,000
  • Bibim kalguksu: ₩11,500
  • Spicy bone kalguksu: ₩12,500
  • (New menu) Clam kalguksu: ₩12,000 / discounted to ₩6,000 on weekdays

On the menu board at this Hapjeong bossam spot, the bossam was written biggest as the main item, and there were also plenty of good drinking-food options like stir-fried octopus and squid-and-chive pancake. As for noodle dishes, there was a good variety — bone kalguksu, anchovy kalguksu, bibim kalguksu, and more!

Sign noting a 10% discount for firefighters, military, and police

Noticed this at the entrance — they offer a 10% discount for firefighters, military, and police officers. Such a nice policy that looks out for people who quietly work hard in tough jobs! Hoping many firefighters, military, and police folks looking for a place to eat around Hapjeong-Mangwon come across this and check it out!

How the medium bossam and the new clam kalguksu tasted

Table setting with medium bossam and clam kalguksu

We ordered the medium bossam and the new clam kalguksu. The moment the clam kalguksu arrived, my expectations shot up just from the visual!!! Doesn't it look ridiculously good haha. So many clams packed in, and that chili and pepper sprinkled on top haha, totally my style!

The bossam was also sliced into thick, easy-to-eat pieces, each one nice and hefty, layered all the way down — the portion turned out to be surprisingly large. My partner and I couldn't finish it and left just a tiny bit. I never usually leave meat behind, but we were just too full!!!

A plate of thickly sliced bossam
Kimchi, radish salad, and salted shrimp served alongside the bossam

We tried the bossam various ways with the kimchi, radish salad, and salted shrimp that came alongside, plus doenjang (soybean paste). The meat was tender and well-cooked, and it went especially well with the radish salad! Plus the portion was seriously huge, so we were beyond full!!

Clam kalguksu loaded with noodles and clams

The clam kalguksu was so hearty! There were so many clams that they just kept turning up no matter how much we ate, and the broth had just the right kick — the kind of taste that kept us reaching back for more.

The noodles were also cooked just right, and my partner, who loves noodle dishes, especially enjoyed it! Honestly this would be worth it even at ₩12,000, so getting it for ₩6,000 on weekdays is such a great deal ㅠㅠ If I lived nearby I'd want to come back on a weekday for more!!! If you're looking for a Korean restaurant near Mangwon or Hapjeong stations, this is definitely worth a visit, and if you love bossam in the Hapjeong area, check this place out too ✨🫶
