1++ garlic galbisal vs hanwoo galbisal side by side: Dolgyeok Hanwoo
In short
Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a hanwoo (Korean beef) charcoal grill restaurant in Yeondong, Jeju City, a short drive from Jeju Airport. Ordering 1++ manong galbisal (garlic-infused rib meat) and 1++ hanwoo galbisal side by side let us compare the garlic aroma against the beef's own flavor, and the hanwoo brisket miyeokguk (seaweed soup) came with free refills. Jeju's Dolgyeok Hanwoo | an honest review of manong galbisal & hanwoo galbisal 🥩
When you're craving hanwoo near Jeju Airport
While traveling around Jeju, I was craving good hanwoo (Korean beef) so badly that I went looking for a place — this time I went to Dolgyeok Hanwoo in Jeju. It's in a pretty convenient spot to reach by car from Jeju Airport, so it's a good stop when you're touring Jeju and suddenly want some delicious hanwoo.

Dolgyeok Hanwoo 📍12 Yeondong-11-gil, 1st floor, Jeju-si, Jeju-do, South Korea ⏰12:00–23:00 / break time 15:00–17:00 Closed every Tuesday 🚘Parking available
There's a parking lot in front of the restaurant, and a public lot off to the side too — though the public lot runs ₩3,000 an hour... ㅠㅠ

The restaurant was really upscale and clean. There's group seating, plenty of space between tables, and an indoor restroom too.
Menu, prices, and the order to eat in
- Dolgyeok chadolbagi (beef brisket) — ₩22,000 / 100g
- Manong galbisal (garlic rib meat) — ₩27,000 / 100g
- Hanwoo galbisal (rib meat) — ₩27,000 / 100g
- First order of grilled meat starts at 300g (mix and match allowed)

They say the tastiest order to eat in is: dolgyeok chadolbagi → hanwoo specialty cuts → hanwoo galbisal, black pork diced pork jowl → manong galbisal.

Side dishes and sauces
The banchan (side dishes) also come out neat and well arranged — seasoned lettuce, pickles, cucumber kimchi, kimchi, ssamjang (dipping paste), whole grain mustard sauce, dolgyeok sashimi sauce, manong chili soy sauce, and more. The manong chili soy sauce was seriously delicious.

They also fire the grill with charcoal, so the meat seemed to cook and sear even better.

Hanwoo brisket miyeokguk comes with free refills
And here's the good part: they give you hanwoo brisket miyeokguk (seaweed soup) as a standard side. Refills are possible too❗️ The soup's simmered down really well and tasted amazing — probably because it's made with hanwoo.

Ordering 1++ manong galbisal & 1++ hanwoo galbisal
That day I ordered: ✔️ 1++ manong galbisal ✔️ 1++ hanwoo galbisal

Manong galbisal — rib meat with added garlic aroma
🧄 First up, manong galbisal. This was the dish I was most looking forward to! 'Manong' is Jeju dialect for garlic, and the combination of garlic and rib meat gave it a charm quite different from regular galbisal.

The moment the meat hit the grill, that savory beef smell mixed with a subtle garlic aroma really got my appetite going. Took one bite — the meat was tender, the juices felt moist, and the more I chewed, the deeper the distinctive savory flavor of hanwoo came through.
On top of that, the garlic added a sharp yet slightly sweet aroma, so it never felt greasy — I kept reaching for more! Personally, it was great with just a light dip in salt, and eating it with the garlic aroma made it feel even more like hanwoo you'd only get in Jeju.

Hanwoo galbisal — the clean, natural taste of hanwoo itself
🥩 I also ordered hanwoo galbisal. And you can't skip hanwoo galbisal! If manong galbisal is about added garlic flavor, hanwoo galbisal was better for enjoying the taste of hanwoo itself, a bit cleaner and simpler.

Grilled to a nice golden-brown on the outside, one bite in and the juices were still moist, with that savory meat aroma spreading through your mouth ✨

Not tough at all, with just the right chewy texture — the more you chewed, the more the savoriness came through. Personally, I think hanwoo tastes best when it's grilled just enough to keep the juices, rather than cooked all the way through.

Manong galbisal vs hanwoo galbisal — how are they different?
Both were delicious, but the feel was a bit different.
- Manong galbisal 👉 garlic aroma + savory rib meat, a style with strong flavor that keeps pulling you in
- Hanwoo galbisal 👉 the savory beef flavor of hanwoo itself, a style that's clean yet lets you enjoy rich meat flavor
