Songridan-gil motsunabe restaurant with QR ordering: Horanggul Bangi

In short

Horanggul Bangi Branch is a Japanese-style gopchang hot pot (motsunabe) restaurant on Ogeum-ro 15-gil in Songpa, Seoul, near Songridan-gil. At lunch the writer ordered two servings of the Horanggul gopchang hot pot (16,900 won per person) with a Toss QR code at the table, let it boil for over 10 minutes on a timer, and the owner came by to ladle the broth over the top. The gopchang was tender with no off smell and the broth was rich enough to eat with rice; lunch is quiet, while evenings get crowded.

Ordering two servings of gopchang hot pot by Toss QR code

Ordering at Horanggul Bangi Branch is done via QR code, which was really convenient haha. You scan the Toss QR at the table and can order right away — no need to call a server, it's all self-service. We ordered two servings of the Horanggul gopchang hot pot. We debated the daechang version a bit, but went with the main menu item.

Gopchang hot pot pot before cooking
Hot pot filled with gopchang, daechang, tofu, and chives

The hot pot came piled with ingredients ㅠㅠ looked so good...! Gopchang, daechang, tofu, chives — all stacked generously. Red pepper flakes were sprinkled on top too, so the visuals alone were driving me crazy haha.

Gopchang hot pot starting to simmer on the burner

A 10-minute timer, and the owner finishes the hot pot at your table

For the Horanggul gopchang hot pot, the owner sets a timer to get the cooking time exactly right. Ten minutes, I think? We waited while it simmered past that. Even paying close attention to the exact cooking time felt really thoughtful.

Even before the lid came off, the smell already had my expectations through the roof haha. The bubbling sound while it cooked over the flame was great too. Here comes the simmering hot pot! Honestly this was the moment I was most excited for and it looked the most delicious, hahaha.

Rich, thick broth of the simmered gopchang hot pot

The broth looked rich and thick. You could feel the warmth just by looking at it...! The owner ladled the broth over everything himself, making sure it cooks evenly ㅠㅠ It looked so good...!

Ah, the visuals were insane haha. I couldn't wait to see how it tasted!

How does the gopchang hot pot taste? Broth, gopchang and fish cake

I took a spoonful of the Horanggul gopchang hot pot broth and immediately got a deep, layered flavor ㅠㅠ Slightly spicy but not harsh, with strong umami.

Vegetables soaked in broth inside the hot pot
Plate of chives and vegetables scooped out of the hot pot

The vegetables soaked up the broth well and tasted good even on their own. Even though it's a gopchang hot pot, there's a decent amount of vegetables in it!

A piece of meat lifted from the gopchang hot pot

Starting with the meat, since I love it, haha. The meat itself was really tender and delicious.

Close-up of tender gopchang with no funky smell

The gopchang was soft with zero funky smell. Good good! The more you chew it, the nuttier the flavor gets.

Fish cake found inside the hot pot

There was fish cake in there too, and it was good enough to eat on its own like a side dish. Fish cake in a hot pot is just love, haha.

Gopchang hot pot eaten together with a bowl of rice

Eating it with rice was the real winning combo! Mixing the hot broth with rice just melted my heart...

A spoonful of gopchang hot pot broth over rice

I kept scooping up the gopchang hot pot non-stop, hahaha. Spicy but not harsh, so my spoon kept going back in haha.

Garlic scapes served as a basic side dish
Yuzu soy sauce and tofu side dish

The garlic scapes that came as a side dish were seasoned just right. There was also a suggestion to dip the tofu in yuzu soy sauce.

Gopchang hot pot with only broth left

We ate through almost everything except the broth, haha. It was delicious...! Frying rice in the leftover broth would probably have been great too. I really think there's no better spot for a Japanese-style date restaurant in Songridan-gil. Next time I want to try the beef small/large intestine hot pot too, haha.

Horanggul Bangi Branch in one line

The gopchang was incredibly tender and the broth so rich, it made for a hot pot that was perfect with rice.

It was quiet at lunch, but keep in mind it can get busy in the evening! The price is set at ₩16,900 per person for the gopchang hot pot. Ordering two servings plus a separate bowl of rice makes the perfect combo.
