After dropping the kids off, my husband and I had a lunch date together for the first time in a while. We booked ahead through Naver Reservation before heading over.

Being inside a department store meant no worrying about parking, which was a real plus. And since there's no break time, we could eat without feeling awkward even at an in-between hour — as a parent, that's honestly a big deal for me haha.

Given it's in a department store food area, I thought it'd feel pretty open, but there's actually a quiet space off in the corner where you can eat in peace. We first sat inside, but the air conditioning was so strong we moved to a table further out.

What we ordered was the 2-person set (16 pieces of sushi + chashu + noodle choice). For the sushi, you could choose between the regular and the 'better' version, and we boldly went for the better one! For the noodle dish, we swapped in seafood yaki udon.

For solo diners, the sushi hansang (single-serving sushi platter) looked simple yet neatly put together, so eating alone here wouldn't feel awkward at all — and I heard the assorted sushi set is a popular menu item, so that's worth keeping in mind.

How did the beef tartare sushi and abalone sushi taste?

First came miso soup and salad to warm us up a little while we waited. Then the sushi platter made its grand entrance! Even the soy sauce on the table had an expiration date printed on it, which felt reassuring in terms of hygiene.

Since we ordered the upgraded version, we got beef tartare sushi, abalone sushi, eel sushi, and tuna sushi — and among these, the beef tartare and abalone sushi were easily the best! You could really taste the freshness. Partway through, the warm chashu (braised pork belly) and seafood yaki udon were set down too, and the chashu topped with fresh vegetables was genuinely delicious.

That said, since the sushi, chashu, and yaki udon were all soy-sauce based, I found myself craving something like cola or spicy food partway through haha. Personally, I thought ramen might pair better than yaki udon, but every single piece of sushi was so good that it was still a really enjoyable meal.
