I heard there was a delicious meat restaurant in Uijeongbu that gives out unlimited domestic Haenam cabbage and minari (water dropwort), so I went to check out Cheonpo Hoegwan Uijeongbu Main Branch (천포회관 의정부본점).

How long is the walk from Uijeongbu Station?

Cheonpo Hoegwan is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Uijeongbu Station. Thanks to its hanok-style exterior, it stood out from a distance.

Lunch special ⭕️ Given today's prices, getting a hearty bulgogi plus freshly made stone-pot rice for ₩12,000 seemed like a pretty great deal! (I should come back for lunch sometime...!)
What the dining room is like at 6pm on a weekday
Walking inside, the space was much bigger than I expected! I visited around 6pm on a weekday, and several tables were already full, which showed just how popular this place is.
Cheonpo Hoegwan's menu and our ₩36,000 bill

The menu was packed with variety, from the signature pork belly and beef rolls to Seoul-style bulgogi, sundae gopchang jeongol (blood sausage and intestine hot pot), and various side dishes!
We ordered pork belly — ₩16,000 x2, freshly made stone-pot rice — ₩2,000 x1, and cola — ₩2,000 x1. (₩36,000 total)
Ureong doenjang, wrap vegetables and free-flow minari

As soon as we sat down, several side dishes were set on the table. The staff let us know in advance that the uroeng doenjang (snail paste stew) couldn't be refilled separately, and even gave us a tip that dipping the meat in it tastes amazing.

Can you see how fresh the wrap vegetables look 🥹 They prepared a full spread of fresh perilla leaves, cabbage, and minari! The minari in particular kept getting refilled, so we had plenty throughout the meal without ever running short.
Beef tartare served free as a side dish

The amazing part was that beef tartare came out as a basic side dish. Topped with sesame oil, sesame seeds, and minari, it was fresh and tender — really satisfying.
The kimchi pancake you fry yourself

Cheonpo Hoegwan's special touch was the self-grilled kimchi pancake! Once we sat down, they handed us a separate batch of kimchi pancake batter, and there was a designated cooking area off to the side where you fry it yourself. Heating up the pan with plenty of oil and pouring in the batter to cook it golden brown was genuinely fun.
₩16,000 pork belly: how thick is it, and how does it taste?

The main dish, pork belly, was noticeably thick at a glance, and the pale pink color of the meat looked so fresh!

The side dishes for grilling alongside the pork belly were really varied too. Grilling kimchi, spicy radish salad, and shredded scallions together with the meat let us enjoy a wide range of flavors. Whoever thought of that combo has great taste...❤️

(Can you see how good this looks ㅠ) The pork belly was thick enough that every bite released more savory juices into my mouth — truly delicious.

I highly recommend wrapping the meat in the kimchi pancake ( the combo is seriously delicious..🥹❤️ )
₩2,000 stone-pot rice, finished with sungnyung (toasted rice tea)

The stone-pot rice was glossy and had that fluffy, chewy texture — really good. Pouring hot water into the pot to make a savory sungnyung (scorched rice tea) to finish the meal warmed up my stomach and cleaned my palate — I really liked that touch!
The verdict on Cheonpo Hoegwan in one line
Just a 5-minute walk from Uijeongbu Station makes it easy to get to, and Cheonpo Hoegwan generously serves up domestic Haenam cabbage and minari without holding back. Thick pork belly, fresh beef tartare, and the self-grilled kimchi pancake on top made for a satisfying, filling meal. I'd recommend it for an evening work dinner or a casual drink with friends 🐷
