Daegu cake shop for a sister's birthday fig mini cake: Siznique

A Siznique cake review from Daegu Shinsegae. While looking for a birthday cake for my sister, who I really love, I heard that her favorite cake is Siznique's, so we headed straight to Shinsegae.

What kind of cakes does Siznique make?

Unlike what I expected — that cake is cake, all pretty much the same — Siznique's cakes are fruit cakes made with carefully selected seasonal fruit. Seeing them in person, the visuals were so good I immediately wanted to eat one. Unlike the fruit cakes I knew, where low-sugar fruit gets propped up with syrup, these use genuinely delicious, high-sugar fruit, so satisfaction was high.

Siznique Daegu Shinsegae: location, hours and parking

It's on B1 of Daegu Shinsegae Department Store, open Mon–Thu 10:30–20:00 and Sat–Sun 10:30–20:30, so keep that in mind when visiting! We parked in the department store's basement parking lot and walked over.

When we arrived it was really crowded but there was no line. The fruits available that day were peach, mango, and fig — I love peach so much, but my husband has a peach allergy, so we couldn't get it, ugh. In the end we went with fig, the seasonal fruit! There were various sizes and only seasonal fruit varieties available, which I actually liked better.

The shop wasn't hard to find either — you see it right as you come down the escalator. And since we stopped by on the way home after finishing our shopping, I really liked how easy the pickup route was, no extra hassle carrying it around. Since we were going to eat it right away, we skipped the cooler bag and they just boxed it up for us.

Honey vanilla fig (mini), 35,000 won, with a heart candle

We got the honey vanilla fig (mini), priced at ₩35,000. Everything from the fresh cream to the figs was domestically sourced, which I really appreciated. We also bought a heart-shaped chocolate topper to stick on top. Doesn't it look pretty?

My sister and I had an endless selfie session… it's so pretty for photos too. And now, the eating time!!! I'm not even a fan of cakes that are just fruit and fresh cream, but I was surprised the moment I took a bite.

How did the fig cake taste?

First off, the sponge was so good! Not too sweet, and it paired really well with the fresh cream. The fig wasn't too soft either, ripened just right, making me think, 'How is this so cleanly delicious!' My husband, who doesn't really like fruit either, ate happily, saying the sponge and cream were so good.

Is Siznique worth it for a birthday cake?

This was the cake my birthday sister recommended, and I ate it so happily, haha.

🍰 Final verdict. I discovered Siznique while looking for a pretty dessert at Shinsegae Department Store! This time I picked the fig mini cake, and the size wasn't overwhelming and the visual was pretty, so I was satisfied 🤍 Especially with the figs on top, it looked beautiful, and the sweet cake paired well with the fig.
