Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch sits right on the main road, just 10m from Randy's Donuts and Pizzverger, and it's a 5-minute walk from Handam Coastal Trail and Aewol Cafe Street. Perfect course if you're coming from the sea or heading to a pretty cafe afterward 👍

I told myself I had to eat gogigguksu (pork bone noodle soup) while traveling in Jeju, so I visited Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, famous as a local favorite in Aewol! I'd been enjoying the ocean view along Handam Coastal Trail and the restaurant was right nearby, so I could just walk over haha. The location is so perfect I wanted to recommend it to anyone planning an Aewol-area course! It's basically next to Randy's Donuts, so noodles first then pickup sounds like a great combo!

We ordered two pork noodles and one Jeju makgeolli! There were so many sides I wanted, but... us #teamtravelers have too many places left to go, so I held back as much as I could ㅠㅠ If I could've ordered more, I think it would've been the chive pork sundae..haha
The floor-to-ceiling ocean view: the main reason to visit Handam Guksu
If there's one reason you absolutely must come here, this is probably it.. The restaurant's windows are full floor-to-ceiling glass, making it a legendary view spot 🥹 The weather was especially great that day, so just looking at the view was already filling.. The atmosphere alone passed with flying colors.
Self-serve sides at Handam Guksu: pickled dried radish, kimchi, peppers
It came out not long after we ordered! Such a pale, glowing look..🫶 The side dishes are pickled radish strips, kimchi, and peppers, all set up as a self-serve corner so you can take as much as you want. I especially found the pickled radish strips really delicious.. I finished one bowl and went back for another ㅎ
How the rich bone-broth pork noodles taste, and how big a bowl is
Finally tried the pork noodles. Even without adding a large portion, the amount was huge! The broth felt clean and light, the kind that just goes down smoothly. But you could still taste the deep flavor unique to gogigguksu, so.. it was seriously delicious. Confirmed as an Aewol lunch spot.
The meat was also really big and tender, so I could eat without feeling like anything was missing. There was pepper and chili powder set out beside us too, so if you need it, feel free to add some~ For me the clean flavor was just right, so I ate it all without adding anything haha. Normally I add extra, but I didn't want to ruin this clean taste!
I drank Jeju makgeolli alongside it, and since the pork noodle broth was so tasty, it went down so smoothly 😄 Highly recommend this combo~!
