Why we went to Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon for galchi-jorim in Seongsan

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a restaurant in Seongsan, Jeju selling a galchi-jorim (braised cutlassfish) set. Order the A set and you get galchi-jorim, hot stone pot rice, soy sauce crab, grilled tilefish, seaweed soup, and various side dishes. We'd picked bananas in the morning and were wondering what to eat for lunch — I wanted galchi-jorim, so I looked this place up.

Grilled fish comes with it, which makes it perfect to go with kids. Honestly, grilled fish is a cheat code for getting kids to eat while traveling. Especially on a Jeju trip, we tend to eat a ton of grilled fish haha.

Hours, roadside parking and the room inside

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon is open daily from 8am to 9pm, year-round. The address is 1st floor, 101 Sinyang-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do.

The place is decorated in a cute, cozy way. It was hot, so they even turned on a mini fan by my seat. So kind hahaha. Gomi kept sitting up and down wanting to feel the fan breeze... she's been so loud and doesn't listen lately, so I get self-conscious at restaurants ㅜ lol. Her voice is SO loud ㅠㅠ lol.

For parking, I think the roadside in front of the building works. We came in through the back alley and parked behind the building, then walked out between the buildings and there was the main road right there lol. It would've been easier to just park out front. There's no big dedicated lot — everyone seems to just park on the street.

What comes with the A set for two

We ordered the A set for two — galchi-jorim, hot stone pot rice, a choice of seafood stew or sea urchin seaweed soup, grilled tilefish, soy sauce crab, and side dishes. I saw on the wall that they also sell soy sauce crab for takeout, and it was genuinely delicious. Kind of tasted similar to that famous crab place in Icheon, Kang Minju's Deulbap or whatever it's called?? lol.

The grilled tilefish was tasty too, and the kids ate a lot of it. Two fish came out and the kids basically finished them lol. After eating, my husband was picking through the bones for scraps... felt so bad... sorry, I'll debone the fish for you next time too... lol.

We ordered an extra bowl of rice and gave it to the kids with the grilled tilefish and sea urchin seaweed soup, and both of them ate well. The seaweed soup was so good I bet the seafood stew is great too... my husband and I both said we're curious about the seafood stew too lol. Kim Hakkong said she doesn't eat seaweed soup, but then when I was about to order the seafood stew she changed her mind and said she'd eat the seaweed soup lol. Good thing she ate it lol. Gomi ate well too haha. Mom and dad still want to try the seafood stew.....

Side dishes get refilled, and the galchi-jorim, the main dish, was delicious. The broth was spicy and rich, and mixed with rice it disappears in no time lol. After finishing, the nurungji (scorched rice) was also great. Our kids love nurungji too, so Hakkong ate all of her brother's nurungji lol.

Genuinely great to bring kids to. Parents get the braise, kids get the grilled tilefish! Nice that it wasn't the usual grilled mackerel. I rarely make grilled tilefish at home myself lol. Considering we all ate together as a family, the value for money is really good, no?

How to book by phone when same-day reservations are closed

It's good to book on Naver ahead of time, but if same-day reservations are closed, calling the restaurant works — they'll tell you to just come in. We called thinking it probably wouldn't work either, but they just booked us for an open time slot and told us to write our arrival time in the request notes; said there might be a short wait but that's fine, just come. We went and ate well! The owner was so kind too.

They have plenty of baby chairs, and looking around, a lot of families with babies were there too.

Hwanggeumhyang tangerines across the street after lunch

After eating, we bought hwanggeumhyang (a Jeju citrus variety) and juice from across the street, and the hwanggeumhyang there was amazing too. Sweet, thin peel, genuinely delicious. Want to eat it again haha. I got a business card but I don't know where it went ㅜ lol.

If you're near Seongsan, eating galchi-jorim and grabbing some hwanggeumhyang sounds like a solid plan haha. Now that I want to buy more, I can't find the shop again ㅠㅠ.
