Sanbangsan restaurant open 9am, birthday seaweed soup: Sikgwa Hamkke
In short
Sikgwa Hamkke Jeju Sanbangsan Branch is a Korean restaurant serving braised cutlassfish course meals near Sanbangsan in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju. Arriving just after 9am straight from checking out of a guesthouse, the writer ordered the boneless braised cutlassfish for two at 45,000 won, and because the day was her boyfriend's birthday, the seaweed soup that comes as a standard side turned the table into a birthday spread. Pets are welcome and a Naver receipt review earned a glass of freshly squeezed hallabong juice, making Sikgwa Hamkke a satisfying breakfast stop.

After checking out in the morning, I got hungry and visited Sikgwa Hamkke, a cutlassfish stew spot near Sanbangsan.

You can try boneless braised cutlassfish, grilled cutlassfish, seafood ramen, abalone rice, and more.

Sikgwa Hamkke's motto is 'taste equals kindness'! I was already looking forward to the food~

Inside Sikgwa Hamkke: atmosphere and seating
The interior of Sikgwa Hamkke Jeju Sanbangsan Branch had wood-tone furniture and a clean layout that felt tidy and cozy overall. There were plenty of 2-, 4-, and 6-person tables, and I also spotted an 8-person table made from joined 4-person tables.
Soft lighting fixtures, emotional frames, napkin holders, and pretty aprons were placed throughout, creating a cozy atmosphere.

Dried flowers placed around the space also caught my eye.

With a semi-open kitchen, I could see the owner carefully preparing the food. The cooking counter and dishware I could glimpse were all kept clean and well organized, so I could dine with peace of mind.

I could also check out photos showing the generous set menu composition.

What comes with the Sikgwa Hamkke course menu?
On the menu, I saw course options. Course A is boneless braised cutlassfish, available for 2, 3, or 4 people, while Course C is whole braised rockfish, also available for 2, 3, or 4 people with a variety of side dishes. There were also individual menu items — you can order a boneless braised cutlassfish table set that comes with a bowl of rice, sea urchin seaweed soup, and the standard course side dishes.

The restaurant allows pets, so check the guidelines first if you plan to bring one along. They were also running a Naver receipt review event, offering a glass of seasonal juice to those who participate, so keep that in mind.
The 45,000-won boneless braised cutlassfish table for two
Boneless braised cutlassfish for 2 (₩45,000)

The first four side dishes served turned out to be a complimentary set given when everyone in the group orders the same menu. They were fried cutlassfish, abalone and top shell shrimp rice, cabbage salad, and seasoned acorn jelly. The sides were overall tidy and tasty, but the abalone and top shell shrimp rice had a nutty abalone flavor that stood out, and the fried cutlassfish — which I was trying for the first time — had a crispy coating around soft, delicious fish that disappeared in no time~

Next came seaweed soup, soy-marinated crab, tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), soy-braised quail eggs, seasoned fish cake, potato salad, seasoned eggplant, seasoned chives, pickled celery, stir-fried kimchi, seasoned bracken, seasoned abalone, and sweet pumpkin fritters — a generous spread of side dishes.

Seaweed soup on a birthday morning in Jeju
Doesn't the whole spread, main dish of braised cutlassfish included, look delicious?! As it happened, the day I visited was my boyfriend's birthday, and since seaweed soup was included among the side dishes, I got to feel like a genius for finding this place!!☺️
Seeing the braised cutlassfish bubbling away on the neatly set table made me hungry right away.

How does Sikgwa Hamkke's boneless braised cutlassfish taste?
The sight of the red sauce bubbling away deliciously really got my appetite going~ The easy-to-eat boneless cutlassfish and soft radish were soaked through with sweet and spicy sauce, making it perfect as a side dish with rice~!!
Since there were no bones, I ended up eating it spoonful by spoonful along with the broth.

With the delicious braised cutlassfish and so many side dishes, one bowl of rice disappeared in no time!!

You know the soft radish in braised cutlassfish is the real MVP, right?! The sauce soaked in deep, so even the radish alone had great savory flavor.

Freshly squeezed hallabong juice from the review event
If you join the review event, they give you a refreshing seasonal juice — I received freshly squeezed hallabong (Jeju citrus) juice~ It tasted rich, like no water was added, so it wasn't just sweet but had a deep, slightly bitter edge, perfect for cleansing the palate!🍊

The cutlassfish (and squid) served at the restaurant can be shipped nationwide or packaged to go, so I thought it would make a great gift too~👍🏻
