Hi, this is Matkongi :) Today I visited a boneless cutlassfish stew spot near Sanbangsan in Hwasun, Andeok-myeon, on the west side of Jeju during my trip. I got completely won over by the generous side dishes and the stew, so let me introduce Sikgwa Hamkke Jeju Sanbangsan Branch — a great meal stop for west Jeju travel! (It's dog-friendly, so it's perfect for anyone traveling with their pup too haha 😊)
Where is Sikgwa Hamkke Jeju Sanbangsan Branch, and how do you get there by bus?
Sikgwa Hamkke Jeju Sanbangsan Branch is in Hwasun near Sanbangsan, just a 5-minute walk from Hwasun Transfer Stop, so it's reachable by bus too. I took a bus from Jungmun, and getting there was pretty easy.
The restaurant sits in Hwasun near Sanbangsan. There's also Hwasun Golden Sand Beach nearby, so it's a good cutlassfish stew spot to combine with a beach visit. It seemed like a lot of locals eat here too.

If you're driving a rental car or your own, there's free parking right in front of the building. It's not a restricted zone, so you can just pull right up to the curb in front of the restaurant. When I visited, rental cars were lined up right out front, which made it clear this is already a well-known cutlassfish stew spot for tourists.

The exterior has a sign that reads "taste is kindness itself," which caught my eye. Right, taste is the most important thing at a restaurant! I was already looking forward to the food before even stepping inside Sikgwa Hamkke Jeju Sanbangsan Branch.
Inside Sikgwa Hamkke: seating and what's on the menu
Inside, Sikgwa Hamkke Jeju Sanbangsan Branch has a wood-tone interior with seating ranging from tables of 4 up to group tables. The tables are spaced fairly wide apart, so it's comfortable whether you're dining with family or grabbing a meal while traveling.

I was surprised by how spacious the inside was as soon as I walked in. The overall wood-tone interior felt cozy and warm, making for a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere to eat in.

The aprons hanging on the wall were so cute I wanted to take one home haha. It had a nostalgic feel, like visiting grandma's house — a lovely spot in Seogwipo, Jeju.
With everything from tables for 4 to group seating for larger parties, it's a great fit whether it's a family meal out or a dining stop during a Jeju trip. The interior overall was clean and pleasant, which was reassuring from a hygiene standpoint too.

There were soft lighting and little decorative touches scattered throughout, giving the space a clean yet charming feel. The seating spacing between tables was also wide enough for a private, quiet meal!

Boneless cutlassfish stew for 2 at 45,000 won: the late-dinner spread
What I ordered at Sikgwa Hamkke Jeju Sanbangsan Branch was the boneless cutlassfish stew for 2, ₩45,000. Even though I arrived a bit past regular dinner hours, there were plenty of travelers coming in for a late meal, some with a drink on the side.

The side dishes started coming out right after ordering — and they seemed endless. I already knew this place was known for its generous, varied banchan (side dishes), but seeing the table fill up with carefully made homemade side dishes really got my mouth watering.

And that wasn't the end — the main cutlassfish stew, soup, more side dishes, and abalone rice all arrived, filling the table with a full, generous spread for two. It was clearly a lot of food for two people! There were plenty of kid-friendly side dishes too, so it looked great for a family meal.

Namul side dishes and soy-marinated crab at Sikgwa Hamkke
First came the side dishes: bracken fern, aster greens, and citron-braised lotus root — all sorts of namul (seasoned vegetable side dishes) that are famous in Jeju, each made with real care. The braised lotus root in particular had a tangy flavor and a crisp, snappy texture unique to this place, which felt special.

There were also quail eggs, Korean-style beef patties (neobiani), and potato salad, so it would work well as a restaurant for a family trip with kids. A cool mukk (starch jelly) side dish also came out, its savory sesame oil aroma whetting the appetite, and the aged kimchi was an absolute rice thief.

On top of that, soy-marinated crab packed with meat also arrived — the tender flesh and salty soy seasoning were on par with dedicated soy crab specialty restaurants. Honestly, I could have finished a whole bowl of rice with the side dishes alone.

Steamed rice plus abalone innard rice, both included
I only ordered the boneless cutlassfish stew, but along with the regular steamed rice, abalone innard rice also came out. Looking at the overall menu makeup, this is genuinely great value for money at a restaurant near Sanbangsan. The savory, rich abalone innards, along with bits of abalone meat throughout, were really appealing.
Cutlassfish braised down with almost no broth — how spicy is it?
And now the star of the show: the boneless cutlassfish stew! Here, it's made almost without any broth, truly stewed down in the traditional jorim (braised) style.

Maybe because of that, the seasoning had soaked deep into the fish, giving it incredible depth of flavor. For someone who can't handle much spice, it's on the spicier side, but it's the kind of
But it's a genuinely delicious spicy that kept pulling me back for more.
Since it's boneless cutlassfish, it was easy to eat, and the fish was so soft and tender it practically melted in my mouth. Piling a generous amount of cutlassfish onto white rice, mixing in the sauce, and eating it in one bite was the best part — the sauce was rich and deep, and it paired perfectly with the rice.

The cutlassfish stew wasn't the only dish — fried cutlassfish also came out, and the combination of sweet soy sauce and crispy fried fish was really nice. It reminded me that cutlassfish tastes different when you eat it in Jeju.

Finally, there was the hallabong tangerine juice I got for the receipt review — the owner said it was freshly pressed 100% hallabong and poured me a generous glass. The deep, sweet-tart flavor of hallabong felt like drinking pure vitamins, so I downed it in one go!
Final verdict: is Sikgwa Hamkke good value for cutlassfish stew near Sanbangsan?

With spicy, rice-friendly boneless cutlassfish stew, generous side dishes, and even abalone innard rice, the menu lineup at this Sanbangsan-area, Seogwipo cutlassfish stew restaurant was genuinely substantial and satisfying. It really confirmed that cutlassfish in Jeju is different, and the price didn't feel like a burden at all. It's a great, filling meal option at Sikgwa Hamkke in Jeju. With a kind owner and a cozy, warm atmosphere, this is a dog-friendly cutlassfish stew spot in Seogwipo, Jeju where you can enjoy a genuinely pleasant meal.
If you're looking for a cutlassfish stew restaurant near Sanbangsan in Jeju, a cutlassfish stew spot in Seogwipo, a dog-friendly restaurant in Jeju, or good-value cutlassfish stew in Seogwipo, I recommend Sikgwa Hamkke!
