Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap: a new building on Hamdeok Coastal Road
Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap is a Jeju regional restaurant that opened on the first floor of a brand-new building at 418 Jochamhaean-ro, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si — right on Hamdeok Coastal Road. I'd been curious what would move into that clean new building, and this is what opened. There's a parking lot beside the restaurant, and you can also park at the harbor across the street.

I went for an early lunch at 11:30am.
The place is clean and has seating for larger groups, so it would be comfortable for a group reservation too.

Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap is a Hamdeok restaurant with 50 years of experience braising mackerel, hand-selecting the fish themselves so you get godeungeo-jjim (braised mackerel) made from genuinely fresh mackerel.

The restaurant sits right by the sea, so eating with a view of the Jeju coast is part of the appeal too.
What comes with the 36,000 won mackerel ssambap for two?
Mackerel ssambap (wrap rice) is ₩36,000 for two and comes with rice included.

There's a black pork dueuruchigi (stir-fry) on the menu too, so it'd be a good extra order if you're coming with kids.

There's a range of other Jeju regional dishes too — braised hairtail, sea urchin seaweed soup, hairtail soup, abalone hot pot, and more.

Hairtail soup especially is a delicacy you can only really get in Jeju, so I'd recommend trying it at least once — it's surprisingly free of any fishy taste, clean and light in a way that's really appealing.

Sanjeok, the skewered meat dish served at Jeju ancestral rites, is another special Jeju food you won't find on the mainland. It's pork skewered and grilled, seasoned somewhat like marinated ribs — sweet and salty and delicious. There's also an add-on option for crab and kimchi, so you can round out the meal even more.

Baby chairs and the self-serve bar: why it works for family trips
Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap has baby chairs on hand, and writing a Naver receipt review gets you Jeju crunch chocolate. Extra side dishes, wraps, and aprons are all at the self-serve bar.

Beyond what they bring to your table, there are more tasty side dishes at the self-serve bar, so make sure to check it out haha.

Even the pot at Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap has a bit of an upscale feel. From the side dishes to the wraps to the rice, everything is neat and tidy, which makes it a good-atmosphere spot for a family trip or a date too.

Soy-marinated crab at 40,000 won a tub, with delivery
The house-made ganjang gejang at Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap runs ₩40,000 per container, plus a ₩5,000 delivery fee. It's good enough that I noticed other tables ordering it for delivery before they left.

How did the kimchi-braised mackerel taste?
The godeungeo kimchi-jjim (mackerel kimchi stew) comes out fully cooked, so you can dig in right away, and there's an induction burner at every table so you can warm it up to your taste. A whole piece of well-fermented kimchi goes into the pot.
The kimchi is appropriately spicy, not too sweet or sour, so it's easy to enjoy without any hesitation.

The mackerel pieces are genuinely plump, which also makes them easy to debone as you eat.

The broth is clean rather than heavy, which is another standout point. I can be picky about braised mackerel when it has any fishy edge, but the mackerel here is fresh enough that even sensitive eaters should be able to enjoy it comfortably.

Blue-back mackerel is a nutrient-dense fish, so this is a Hamdeok restaurant that should be popular for family meals with kids as well as gatherings with adults.

The wrap greens are fresh, and there's a good variety at the self-serve bar, so you can help yourself generously without feeling self-conscious.

The ganjang gejang shell isn't tough and the meat yield is good. If you order the day before you head back to the mainland, you can have it delivered to you the following day.
