I think pork noodle soup (gogi guksu) is one thing you absolutely can't skip on a Jeju trip! Pork noodle soup places are usually clustered near the airport, but since my stay was over in Aewol, I went looking for a good spot to eat for breakfast-and-lunch and found this one!
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, also famous as a local favorite in Aewol, has a really great location. It's a five-minute walk from the Aewol café street, so it's perfect for grabbing a meal and then heading to a café 👍
Where do you park in Aewol?
There's space to park right in front of the restaurant. If that fills up, it seems like you can also use the parking lot of Randy's Donuts right next door.

Sitting at a table by the window wall, the cool Aewol sea spread out right in front of me. True to its reputation as a local favorite in Aewol, it had a strong local vibe, and I saw quite a few neighborhood locals rather than tourists — which convinced me it's a genuine local gem 🤤

The main menu has a good range of pork noodle soups: bone-broth pork noodle soup (₩10,000), dongchimi bibim noodles (₩10,000), mala pork noodle soup (₩11,000), and lean pork rice soup (toryeom gukbap, ₩10,000). Side dishes included dombe cold pork slices (₩15,000), handmade pork tteokgalbi 3pcs (₩10,000), pork mandu (₩7,000), and rice (₩1,000).

What's on the self-serve side dish bar?
The self-serve bar had a variety of banchan (side dishes) you could scoop out yourself, and bowls and utensils were also neatly arranged to one side, which made it easy to use.
And here comes the food!!!
How is the bone-broth pork noodle soup, 10,000 won?
Bone-broth pork noodle soup, ₩10,000. The pale, rich bone broth topped generously with thinly sliced pork, bean sprouts, sesame seeds, and green onion looked completely appetizing from the get-go!
Lifting the noodles up, they stretched out with a springy, bouncy texture, and the broth was deep and savory but not greasy at all, so it went down smoothly the whole way through.
The best way to eat the dongchimi bibim noodles, 10,000 won
Dongchimi bibim noodles, ₩10,000. The bibim noodles I ordered alongside came with a sweet-and-tangy sauce plus crunchy bean sprouts and cucumber strips, giving off a refreshing feel from the moment it arrived.
For the bibim noodles, you pour in some of the accompanying broth to taste and mix it into the sauce before eating.
Mixing the noodles and taking a bite, the tanginess really woke up my appetite, and it paired perfectly with the mandu! Switching between it and the pork noodle soup meant I never got tired of it and could enjoy it deliciously to the very end.
Pork mandu, 7,000 won
Pork mandu, ₩7,000. The last thing I ate, these mandu were packed generously full — biting into one, I could clearly see the meat and vegetables tightly stuffed inside.
Dipped lightly in soy sauce, it was clean-tasting yet full of juicy flavor — a perfect side to pair with the noodles.
There was also a sign posted saying that writing a Naver receipt photo review gets you a free Jeju specialty crunch (choice of tangerine, cactus, or green tea).
Is Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch worth a stop in Aewol?
