Figure museum in Seogwipo: a 2-hour visit with a 6-year-old

When you are traveling in Jeju, there are those days when the weather is iffy or it is just too hot, and you wonder where to take your child, right? On this Jeju trip, we visited Figure Museum Jeju (피규어뮤지엄제주). We had actually been here once last year too. Our 6-year-old had enjoyed it so much then that even after the trip was over, he kept saying, “I want to go again.” Since we were back in Jeju, we stopped by once more. But this time, he stayed even longer than last year. We spent a whole 2 hours looking around, haha.

We visited after going to O’sulloc Museum. It is also close to Jeju Shinhwa World and the Jeju Aerospace Museum, so it would be easy to include with nearby attractions. Best of all, it is indoors, so the weather does not affect it much. It is a good place to take children on rainy or very windy days in Jeju—or, on the other hand, when it is simply too hot.

As my 6-year-old started getting into heroes

My child has always liked hero characters. I did not intentionally show him lots of animation from a very young age, but I let him encounter Marvel and DC characters little by little because I thought they could naturally expose him to English too. Then, at some point, he started absolutely loving stories about heroes.

His favorite character keeps changing too. Until right before we came to Figure Museum Jeju, he said Spider-Man was his number one. But after this visit, Daredevil suddenly became his favorite, haha. I have never even properly watched Daredevil, actually.

Character displays that make their eyes go wide from the entrance

There were so many characters visible from the entrance that my child reacted immediately. The first floor especially had lots of heroes I like too, so I had fun looking around as well. Seeing characters from films made at nearly life-size feels different from seeing them in photos.

For children who love Marvel, this part alone will probably take quite a while. My child could not just walk past; he was busy examining each one and saying the characters’ names.

An experience where you become a hero yourself

If it had only been a place to look at figures, I wondered whether my child would have stayed this long. But Figure Museum Jeju also has costumes and props you can try on and use. That was another source of fun for him. He put on outfits, struck poses, and walked around as if he had become a hero—he was so excited, haha. Watching him, I understood why he had wanted to come back even after visiting last year. If you visit with children, these hands-on elements will probably be more satisfying than you expect.

More characters waiting on the second floor

It does not end after the first floor. Go upstairs and another set of characters is waiting. There are DC, Star Wars, and Japanese animation characters, plus Toy Story and Sesame Street, which I love, so I had a great time as an adult too.

There are such a wide variety of characters that it was fun for the child and parents to each find something they liked. If it were a space only children enjoyed, parents might get a little bored, but here I think you would often see adults getting even more excited. And as you look around, you can discover preferences in your child that you did not know about! Most people like Elsa in Frozen, right? But my son says he likes Anna better. Ah... I see. 'ㅡ'

Mazinger Z, where my husband lingered the longest

My husband likes Marvel, but there was somewhere else he unexpectedly enjoyed most on this visit: Mazinger Z in the separate annex. I do not really know Mazinger Z, but my husband spent quite a while here, haha. It made me think Figure Museum Jeju is not just for children; it is also a place that stirs nostalgia for adults who have loved these characters since childhood. My child and husband both liked it, so I had fun looking around too.

Why we ended up staying for 2 hours

Usually, I would think an hour would be enough to make one full round at a place like this. But we actually stayed for about 2 hours. My child did not simply look at the figures and move on—he stopped in front of characters he liked, tried on costumes, took photos, and went looking for other characters—so time flew by.

Of course, I think you could look around quickly in under an hour. But if your child likes characters, it is worth keeping in mind that the visit may take longer than expected, haha.

A good indoor Jeju stop with children

When you travel around Jeju with children like we do, it can be hard to fill the entire day with outdoor plans. Jeju weather can suddenly turn rainy, and in summer the midday heat can make getting around with children feel daunting. At those times, adding one indoor place where you can look around comfortably seems to make the itinerary much more relaxed. Figure Museum Jeju also has a nursing room, so it seemed convenient for families visiting with younger children. Our child is 6 now, so he is not at the age to use one, but for families traveling in Jeju with a baby, facilities like that are quietly important, right?

I am glad we came again after visiting last year

My child liked it when we came last year too, but returning this time, perhaps because he had grown a little, he noticed different things. Last year he went around looking for Spider-Man; this time he became obsessed with Daredevil, haha. My husband fully found and enjoyed his own tastes, from Marvel to Mazinger Z, while I enjoyed the heroes on the first floor and Toy Story and Sesame Street on the second. So this time, it felt like more than a place just for the child—it was a place where our whole family had fun in our own ways. If you are looking for an indoor attraction to visit with children in Jeju, it is worth stopping by at least once.

Especially if your child likes Marvel, DC, or hero characters as ours does, I think they will have even more fun. And considering that the child who visited once last year wanted to return again this year, it seems to have already become a place our family comes back to in Jeju. I wonder whether his favorite character will have changed again next time, haha. Spider-Man → Daredevil. Who will be number one on our next Jeju trip?
