Green chive-noodle jjamppong and mini tangsuyuk in Iksan: Hwangbihong
In short
Hwangbihong is a Chinese restaurant in a back alley near Busong Middle School in Iksan, Jeonbuk. After ordering delivery from this spot for years, the writer finally dined in and tried jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, and mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and the 24-hour beef bone broth jjamppong with green chive noodles and the thin, crispy tangsuyuk stood out most. If you want deep-broth jjamppong paired with crispy tangsuyuk, Hwangbihong is a solid choice.

✨ What stands out 🍜 Deep flavor from jjamppong broth simmered 24 hours with beef bones 🌿 Green noodles made with chives, with a springy texture 🥢 Tangsuyuk with thin, crispy batter and a tangy sauce
I was out on a walk in the park with friends when we started getting hungry. While we were trying to figure out what to eat and searching for good restaurants in Busong-dong, Iksan, a friend suggested Chinese food, and Hwangbihong immediately came to mind haha. It's a place I've ordered delivery from often — I'd even mentioned it before as a good spot for jjamppong in Iksan — so this time I decided to actually eat it in the restaurant 😃
A place I only knew through delivery — where's the actual restaurant?

I'd eaten Hwangbihong via delivery plenty of times before, but this was my first time actually visiting in person haha. Once I got there, it turned out to be right near Busong Middle School. Rather than being on a main road, it sits tucked into a back alley.

No parking worries even if you drive
We drove there, and there was plenty of space to park along the nearby streets, so it was easy. When I visited, parking wasn't something I had to worry much about haha. Something to keep in mind if you're driving while looking for good restaurants in Busong-dong, Iksan 😃
Hours and atmosphere

Hours run from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. There's a break time from 3 to 5 PM, so it's worth checking before you go!

Inside, there were plenty of tables, and the overall vibe was clean and comfortable for a meal haha. We went a bit early for lunch, but I was surprised to see quite a few customers already eating. Given how much delivery business the place already gets, seeing so many dine-in guests too made it clear a lot of people come here looking for good restaurants in Busong-dong, Iksan 😃
Menu and self-serve bar

The menu had a good variety, from jjajangmyeon to jjamppong, meat jjamppong, and brisket jjamppong. We ordered jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, and mini tangsuyuk haha. Looking at the menu, there are quite a few jjamppong varieties, so anyone searching for a jjamppong restaurant in Iksan can pick according to taste.

On one side there was a neatly arranged self-serve bar. Basic side dishes like pickled radish, onion, and kimchi were there, along with dishes and utensils you could use as needed.

Water was self-serve too, so you could just grab it whenever you needed it. That kind of convenience is nice to have during a meal haha.
How was the jjajangmyeon?

The jjajangmyeon sauce wasn't overly sweet or intense — it was a solid, classic flavor haha. The seasoning wasn't too strong, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy.
I'd had Hwangbihong's jjajangmyeon by delivery before, but eating it fresh in the restaurant made it taste a bit warmer and better. I thought kids or anyone who doesn't like strong flavors could eat this comfortably too 😃

If you want a solid, no-frills jjajangmyeon while looking for good restaurants in Busong-dong, Iksan, this seemed like a good choice.
Why is the jjamppong noodle green?

Hwangbihong's jjamppong broth is apparently simmered with beef bones for 24 hours. Maybe that's why, but one sip of the broth and the flavor felt really deep haha. It wasn't just spicy — there was a heavy, lingering flavor that kept pulling me back for more.

The squid was plump, and the seafood was pretty generous overall. Fishing out a piece at a time was pretty fun 😃
The noodle color being green also surprised me a little at first lol. Turns out it's a chive noodle made with chives mixed in. The noodles had a springy texture without feeling soggy, which paired well with the broth.
Eating it in person, I got why this place is known as a good jjamppong spot in Iksan haha. Personally, the deep broth flavor is the kind that stays on my mind. If you're looking for a good jjamppong restaurant in Iksan, Hwangbihong's jjamppong is worth trying at least once 😃
Mini tangsuyuk: thin and crispy

The mini tangsuyuk was personally the best I've had in a while! The batter wasn't thick, just a thin coating, but the outside was really crispy. Every bite kept that crunch alive, so I just kept picking at it lol.

The sauce wasn't just sweet either — it had just the right tang to it, which really stirred up the appetite. It went really well eaten together with the jjamppong haha.

I'd always eaten Hwangbihong by delivery, and eating it in the restaurant for the first time made me understand all over again why I keep ordering from here. If you're looking for a good jjamppong restaurant in Iksan and want tangsuyuk alongside it, this place seems worth a stop.
A mellow cat by the entrance

And in front of Hwangbihong there was also a super cute cat haha. Just seeing it lying comfortably inside a box was so lovable 😃 Even when people came close, it didn't get startled or run off — just stayed lying there, which made it seem like a really mellow personality.
Coming for a meal and running into a cute cat gave me an unexpected bit of happiness haha. If there's a cat out front when you visit Hwangbihong, it's worth taking a look 😃 It was so gentle and cute that, personally, it was a mood-lifter before and after the meal haha.
