Hunting for pasta in Suwan: lunch with my daughter at Bueokgan Suwan Branch

Today I finally went on a weekend lunch date with my daughter Jia again!! Now that she's in 4th grade, weekends are all about grabbing good food, hitting up cafés, and catching movies together with her — it's honestly one of my favorite things haha.

Today's menu?! Pasta!! And pizza!! While looking for a nice-vibe spot in Suwan, I ended up at Bueokgan Suwan Branch, which is well known for pasta and brunch in the Suwan area of Gwangju. The exterior alone gave off a good feeling. "Oh?! This place looks nice?!" Alright! Let the lunch date between me and Jia begin :)

Where is Bueokgan Suwan Branch, and what are the hours?

Bueokgan Suwan Branch is located at 37 Suwan-ro 106beon-gil, 1st floor, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. It's open daily from 11:30 to 21:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00 and last order at 20:20.

It's currently listed as operating daily on TableManager as well, and info on high chairs, parking, reservations, and takeout is available. I'd still recommend double-checking business info before you go.

A Suwan brunch spot with a green view through floor-to-ceiling windows

The first thing that caught my eye walking into Bueokgan Suwan Branch was the huge picture windows. You can see trees outside, and with the sunlight pouring in, the atmosphere feels really bright.

Overall it's a white-toned space with wood furniture and plants placed around — clean but cozy at the same time! The pink bench was a nice little accent point too haha.

On one side there's also wine, and little decor pieces to look at, which was fun on its own. So it felt less like a plain place to eat and more like a Suwan brunch restaurant good for dates or family outings. The Korea Tourism Organization's travel info also lists Bueokgan Suwan Branch as a European-style restaurant with an outdoor terrace and a variety of wines.

What comes in Couple Set B at Bueokgan Suwan Branch, and how much is it?

What Jia and I chose that day was Bueokgan Suwan Branch's Couple Set B. It comes with a garden salad, carbonara, pepperoni pizza, and two lemonades.

The base Couple Set B was listed at ₩51,000 in the photo menu, and what we actually paid after picking our menu options was ₩56,000! There can be add-on charges depending on what you choose, so it's worth checking when you order :)

With salad, pasta, pizza, and drinks all included, it's a pretty solid lineup for two people to try a bit of everything.

Garden salad: the appetite-opener

First up, the garden salad! The colors alone are so pretty, right? Green veggies with radicchio adding a pop of purple — it photographs really well. There was also a generous grating of cheese on top.

When you're working through pasta and pizza, you crave something fresh and tangy in between, right? This hit the spot perfectly for that. I'm honestly not really the type to go to a Gwangju Western restaurant for the salad?! Hahahaha. But that day I kept reaching for more than I expected.

Carbonara at Bueokgan Suwan Branch — the real deal

And now, the menu item that mattered most to me today. Here comes the carbonara!!

Wow... can you see how it looks?! Cream sauce with bacon and mushrooms, and an egg sitting right in the center.

Mixing the yolk into the cream sauce makes it even richer and thicker! I twirled up the noodles for a bite...

Ohh man.... Personally I like cream pasta where the sauce clings to the noodles rather than being too runny. This carbonara had that savory cream richness with bacon and mushrooms in every bite — really satisfying.

So if you're looking for pasta in Suwan, it's worth checking out Bueokgan's other pasta options too. The current menu lists several types besides carbonara, including vongole, basil pesto cream, and seafood tomato.

The pepperoni pizza my daughter fell for

And then, the pepperoni pizza arrives!

There's a generous amount of pepperoni piled on top. But the real highlight was... our Jia hahahaha. The second she picked up a slice, the cheese stretched forever!!!!

Hahahaha Jia... eat slowly... nobody's stealing it from you hahaha.

I'm sitting there taking photos and she doesn't even notice me. Only pizza. ONLY PIZZA. Hahahaha. The cheese stretched really nicely and had that distinct salty pepperoni flavor, which apparently hit exactly right for her.

I liked the pasta a lot, but for Jia, pizza was the clear winner that day :) Having a menu item kids will love is honestly a big factor when picking a brunch spot in Suwan.

And the two lemonades we drank alongside the food! Refreshing just to look at.

Topped with lemon, lime, and even mint, it was perfect for cleansing the palate after something rich like pizza or cream pasta!

One glass each for me and Jia! That's basically what a lunch date is all about haha.

So how good was the Couple Set B meal?

Alright... one photo says it better than any words could.

Hahahahahaha. Totally wiped out. Where did the salad go? Where did the pasta go? Where did the pizza go?! Jia and I cleaned it all up pretty thoroughly. I think that says everything about the taste, right? Hahaha.

Final verdict on a Suwan lunch date with a child

It had been a while since I got to chat over good food and spend a relaxed lunch with Jia at Bueokgan Suwan Branch. I loved the bright atmosphere with sunlight streaming through the picture windows and plants around, and the fact that we could enjoy salad, Suwan-style pasta, pizza, and ade all in one sitting.

If you're looking for an atmospheric Western restaurant in Gwangju, or a brunch spot in Suwan to visit with family, this one's worth considering.

I went for the carbonara! Jia went for the pepperoni pizza! Different tastes, but the conclusion? Both of us cleared our plates completely hahaha. Another happy lunch date with Jia, complete!! ❤️
