Office lunch at a Sinsa Chinese restaurant: extra rice with jjamppong

In short

Samsin Garosu-gil is a Chinese course-meal restaurant about 300m from Sinsa Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Lunch here was Samsin Course A at 25,000 won per person: snow crab soup, xiaolongbao, buttered Tokyo tangsuyuk, and a choice of potato jajangmyeon or meat jjamppong, whose broth was good enough to order an extra bowl of rice. The calm wood-and-green dining room makes Samsin Garosu-gil an easy pick for a business lunch near Sinsa Station or a meal with parents.

I end up eating lunch near Sinsa Station a lot for work, so this time I went for a proper Chinese course meal. I visited Samsin, a well-known Chinese restaurant near Sinsa Station! The interior is completely different from the usual Chinese restaurant vibe — really upscale, with every dish plated with care, so it felt more suited to an important meal than a spot you'd just drop into for jajangmyeon or jjamppong 💓 We came for lunch and had Samsin Course A at 25,000 won per person :)

It's about 300m from Sinsa Station, so it was easy to find right after getting off. Wood tones mixed with a deep green color, and even the lighting and tableware felt super upscale for a Chinese restaurant.

Starter: gonggalppang (hollow fried bread)

Pre-meal gonggalppang bread from the Samsin course

The pre-meal bread came out first, and it was delicious right from the start. Crispy and savory — I started eating without thinking, and honestly I wanted to order more…🥺 It was such a fun and tasty surprise that a Chinese restaurant serves bread like this before the meal haha

Snow crab soup and xiaolongbao (soup dumplings)

Sokcho snow crab soup, the first course dish

The first dish of the course was a warm Sokcho snow crab soup. It was smooth and gentle on an empty stomach.

Xiaolongbao packed with broth at Samsin

The xiaolongbao here at Samsin… the broth inside is insane 🥺💗 The wrapper is packed with juice that bursts out moist — legendary!! So good!! Can you tell from the photo how smooth and moist the wrapper looks? Eating it, the inside was moist all the way through — really satisfying. If you like dim sum, you'll probably love it from here on out. If you're looking for a Chinese restaurant near Sinsa Station and want good value dim sum along with a course, this looks like a solid option!

Tokyo tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) with butter

Tokyo tangsuyuk from the Samsin course

Next up, Tokyo tangsuyuk! (This one this one this one — highly, highly recommend it!!!💓💓💓) The staff poured the sauce over the tangsuyuk, and I noticed the aroma was different from a typical tangsuyuk. Turns out there's a whole pat of butter placed on top of the tangsuyuk…

The butter aroma was genuinely surprising and delicious. As the butter melted into the warm tangsuyuk, the flavor came alive — the sweet sauce combined with the savory butter scent made this familiar dish feel completely new!!

The meat was tender too, and it blended really well with the sauce, so it was one of the most memorable dishes of the course! If you're looking for a Chinese course meal in Garosu-gil, this Tokyo tangsuyuk is definitely worth trying.

Taean potato jajangmyeon and meat jjamppong with extra rice

A bowl of Samsin's meat jjamppong

We ordered one of each noodle (potato jajangmyeon / meat jjamppong). Meat jjamppong — I don't even need to say it, it was deep and delicious. I ordered it because I wanted deep flavor over seafood, and the moment I tasted the broth I added a bowl of rice… hahahaha

Taean potato jajangmyeon with large potato chunks
Mixed potato jajangmyeon noodles

The potato jajangmyeon lives up to its name — the potato isn't finely diced but comes in big chunks, which was the highlight! The thoroughly cooked potato mashed softly for great texture, and the jajang sauce itself wasn't intense, more on the mild side. If you prefer a milder jajang over an overly bold one, this would suit you well ☺️ Having dim sum and tangsuyuk earlier in the course and finishing with noodles made the meal more filling than expected — a satisfying Sinsa Station lunch.

Is Samsin Garosu-gil worth it for a Sinsa Station lunch?

Overall, the food was great, but the upscale space made Samsin, this Chinese restaurant near Sinsa Station, even more memorable! The xiaolongbao packed with broth, the buttered Tokyo tangsuyuk… 👍🏻 the Taean potato jajangmyeon with its chunky, soft potatoes paired well with the jajang sauce, and the meat jjamppong was delicious too — I left fully satisfied with the food.

Especially since Samsin Course A is only 25,000 won per person, if you want an upscale Chinese course meal for lunch, I think I'd come back here. If you're looking for a Sinsa Station restaurant, a Sinsa-dong Chinese restaurant, or a nice Chinese course meal in Garosu-gil, check out Samsin's lunch course :)
