Masan Korean BBQ, staff-grilled frozen pork and fried rice: Smile Hall
In short
Smile Hall Sanho Branch is a retro-style frozen pork belly (naengsam) barbecue restaurant in Sanho-dong, Masan, Changwon, a 5-minute walk from NC Park. The order was two servings of frozen samgyeopsal (pork belly) and two of frozen ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), grilled at the table by staff and eaten with pa-jeori (scallion salad) and an egg-soy sauce, then finished with fried rice pressed into crispy nurungji (scorched rice). Inside Smile Hall: retro dining room and seating in Sanho-dong

Inside, it was mostly 4-person tables. It's a meat restaurant with round tables where you can also make reservations — there were reserved seats when I visited. The chairs also have storage space underneath, which was handy for keeping bags out of the way 💛
Smile Hall menu and prices: frozen pork belly from 9,000 won

Looking at the Smile Hall menu, there was a wide variety of naengsam! Starting from frozen samgyeopsal (100g) at ₩9,000, there's also flower samgyeopsal, kkodeulsal, hangjeongsal, ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), and seasoned naengsam.
For sides, there's doenjang stew, kimchi stew, bibim noodles, and fried rice. Ah, seeing Bongbong and Ssaeksaek soda again after so long brought back memories.

Frozen assorted set (2-3 people) ₩48,000, frozen assorted set (3-4 people) ₩95,000, frozen texture set ₩60,000. Since they sell sets too, ordering just a set could work well. And if you're interested, join the receipt review event and get a free highball or drink!
Ordering two frozen samgyeopsal and two frozen ogyeopsal

We ordered two servings of frozen samgyeopsal and two of frozen ogyeopsal, and as soon as we ordered, basic side dishes like lettuce, peppers, ssamjang, pickles, kimchi, and the sauces for the naengsam all came out together.

Smile Hall, the well-known meat restaurant in Sanho-dong, Masan — it had been a while since I'd had naengsam so I was excited haha. Two servings of samgyeopsal, two of ogyeopsal.
Even if it's not 100% the case for everyone, having it grilled for you makes it so tender and delicious. Meat grilled by someone skilled really does taste better.

The frozen samgyeopsal wasn't thin-sliced like daepae samgyeopsal, so it had a nice chew and just the right thickness. They season it with pepper and salt while grilling, which gave it a nice savory, umami flavor :)
Even just eating the meat plain was tasty since it was already well-seasoned, but the second round was with a scallion + soy sauce + egg mixture! You mix the egg yolk and dip the naengsam in it — it's salty and pairs really well with the meat. Honestly I can't always tell samgyeopsal and ogyeopsal apart, but both the naengsam and naeng-ogyeopsal were delicious. (If the skin part is a bit thicker and chewier, that's ogyeopsal, right..?)

Pa-jeori scallion salad, egg-soy sauce and grilled kimchi
The seasoning on the scallion salad here was really good. It tasted a bit like bibim noodle sauce? Personally I picked up that bibim noodle sauce flavor, so I wrapped the meat with the scallion salad, and it went perfectly with the samgyeopsal. They also grilled kimchi for us, and wow, it paired so well with the naengsam.

Finishing with fried rice and crispy nurungji
I got a little full while eating the meat, so I ordered fried rice too! Fried rice can only be ordered from 2 people, so we left a bit of meat and kimchi and ordered it. I'd recommend the fried rice — why? Because the meat, kimchi, and seasoning blended so well into it. They also put an egg on top in the middle, so I made scrambled egg and turned the fried rice into crispy nurungji, and ended up way too full ㅜㅜㅜ
