Today I went with my partner to Jeju Doldam, a Jeju black pork oegyeopsal spot in Sangnam-dong, Changwon. It's a place where you can properly enjoy thick-cut Jeju black pork belly, and the side dishes came out so generously that I left the meal really satisfied.

Entrance styled like a Jeju stone-wall path
Interior decorated with stone-wall style design

True to its name, Jeju vibes hit you right from the entrance. The interior, styled to evoke Jeju's stone-wall paths (doldam), is clean and well put together — I genuinely felt like I was back on Jeju island. The inside was tidy and had a classy feel too 💙 They said it can seat up to 44, so it looked like a good option for group dinners or family outings around Sangnam-dong.

On one side of the entrance there's a fridge with the meat on display, and just looking at it you could tell the quality was good. Displaying the meat right at the entrance like that — they must really be confident in their quality!!!

What's on the menu at Jeju Doldam

Menu board showing black pork and meal options

The signature dish at this black pork oegyeopsal restaurant in Sangnam-dong, Changwon is, of course, Jeju black pork fresh oegyeopsal 💙 Besides oegyeopsal, they also have mokssal, gabrisal, and hangjeongsal, and for meal options there's

  • Galchisokjeot fried rice
  • Kkotgae doenjang jjigae (crab soybean paste stew)
  • Naengmyeon
  • And even Chapagetti — great for finishing off the meal after the meat.

Side dishes and the complimentary aged-kimchi stew

Table setting with lettuce and scallion kimchi banchan
Banchan with pickled vegetables and pink sausage
Neatly arranged side dish plates

The real highlight at Jeju Doldam is the banchan (side dishes) 💙 Fresh lettuce, scallion kimchi, pickled vegetables, pink sausage — all neatly arranged, and it felt like they'd gathered exactly the kinds of side dishes I love.

Free aged-kimchi stew served as a side

And the free kimchi stew was seriously insane ㅠㅠ It had meat in it, and since it's made with aged kimchi, the broth was so rich and deep. Honestly they could sell just this kimchi stew on its own and I bet it'd be popular???

Kimchi stir-fried in pork fat with mayo ssamjang

The kimchi stir-fried in pork fat was really good too, and I tried their house-made mayo ssamjang for the first time — savory with a big punch of umami!! Just from a few side dishes you could immediately tell this place is legit ㅋㅋㅋ

400g of Jeju black pork oegyeopsal, grilled over charcoal for you

Thick-cut Jeju black pork fresh oegyeopsal, 400g
Fresh oegyeopsal plated before grilling

We ordered the Jeju black pork fresh oegyeopsal 400g. The moment it arrived I was shocked by the look of it... such thick cuts, and even raw you could tell the quality was a cut above. Confirmed: this is the black pork oegyeopsal spot in Sangnam-dong!!!

Black pork oegyeopsal placed on the charcoal grill

At Jeju Doldam, a staff member grills the meat for you right over charcoal. Thanks to that we could just relax and chat while eating, and the owner was super friendly and fun too. They explained which sauce goes best with which bite, one by one — so kind!!

Watching the oegyeopsal slowly turn golden brown over the charcoal — just looking at it made my mouth water...

A piece of oegyeopsal dipped in galchisokjeot

Galchisokjeot, melljeot or wasabi: which dip suited the pork best?

First I tried it dipped in galchisokjeot (fermented hairtail intestine sauce), and it was the best I've ever had 💙 Zero fishy taste, all umami, and it was a fantastic match with the chewy oegyeopsal. Great wrapped in dressed lettuce too, and with stir-fried kimchi it's just — no words >_<

Oegyeopsal served with grilled zucchini
Black pork dipped in melljeot sauce

Grilled zucchini paired with just a pinch of salt was also delicious! Eating it with wasabi brought out the black pork's flavor even more deeply, but honestly, dipping black pork in melljeot (salted anchovy sauce) is the real truth. With so many sauces and side dishes to mix it up, I never got tired of it, even at the very end — loved that.

Finishing with mul-naengmyeon and galchisokjeot fried rice

Once we finished the meat, we ordered mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) to cleanse the palate. It came topped with pollock sashimi, and the cold broth felt like just the right clean finish after all that meat.

Galchisokjeot fried rice with flying fish roe

My partner ordered the galchisokjeot fried rice, and I'd really recommend this one too. It was loaded with flying fish roe, so the popping texture was great, and the distinct umami of galchisokjeot went so well with the fried rice. We topped it with a leftover piece of black pork and it was absolutely the best (❁´◡`❁)

Is Jeju Doldam Sangnam worth a visit?

Jeju Doldam, the black pork oegyeopsal spot in Sangnam-dong, Changwon, had a friendly owner and, above all, really excellent meat quality. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say it was even better than black pork I've had on Jeju island itself!! Definitely coming back with family next time.
