I picked up dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken glazed in sauce) to go from Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village store on Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village. Even though it's a tourist spot, the portion was generous and there was no chicken smell — it wasn't stiff or chewy at all. Delicious fresh, and still delicious cold, so it worked great as a late-night snack.
A large dakgangjeong packed to go on Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village
This time I got takeout from Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's Hanok Village store on Taejo-ro, the main street of the village, and ordered the large size. Wandering around Jeonju Hanok Village, there are so many snacks you want to try.
Since it's inside the Hanok Village, I expected tourist-spot food with small portions or poor value, but the amount here was more generous than I thought — plenty for a late-night snack.
Mannyeon Dakgangjeong tastes good hot and cooled alike
Almost any dakgangjeong tastes good right away. What matters is whether it's still good after some time has passed since takeout. Mannyeon Dakgangjeong held up well cold, which made it solid as a takeout food.
Eaten right after frying, it was warm with a nice crisp texture, and even after it cooled down, the chicken didn't turn stiff or chewy — still tasty. Good either way, fresh or cooled, at this Jeonju Hanok Village favorite.
No chicken odor in the Mannyeon dakgangjeong
One thing that always bugs me with dakgangjeong is the chicken smell. This time, I didn't notice any off smell, and the meat wasn't stiff either.
If the chicken is tough, no matter how good the sauce is, you stop reaching for more after a few pieces. Here, it was tender enough that I kept going back for one piece after another. I planned to eat just a little as a late-night snack, but before I knew it, I was picking up piece after piece.
Why order half-and-half for two flavors at once
Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's menu includes mild, spicy, soy sauce, fried, shrimp, and more.
If picking just one flavor feels like a waste, there's also a half-and-half option to enjoy two flavors at once, so you can mix and match to taste.
When traveling with a group, splitting two flavors instead of sticking to one keeps things from getting repetitive — that seemed like a good move.
I went with mild and soy sauce, half-and-half.
Size was large.
A late-night snack on a Jeonju Hanok Village trip
It's fine to grab as a snack while walking around Jeonju Hanok Village, and it also works well as a late-night bite or drinking snack once you're back at your accommodation in the evening.
Especially after wandering the Hanok Village all day, you can get hungry again even after dinner — that's when it's handy to have takeout on hand to pull out easily.
Eating it with beer at home was especially good.
Want crispy dakgangjeong? Leave the takeout lid slightly open
If you're taking dakgangjeong to go and not eating it right away, it's better to leave the lid slightly open so steam can escape, rather than closing it completely.
If the steam rising off warm dakgangjeong gets trapped, the coating can turn soggy. So if you like a crispy texture, crack the lid open a bit to let the steam out.
On the other hand, if you prefer a slightly soggy, soft-style dakgangjeong, keep the lid closed. The trapped steam softens the coating, giving you a different texture to enjoy.
Personally, I like both the crispy style and the slightly softened style, so I happily ate it both ways.

If you're looking for a quick takeout snack or late-night bite on the main street of Jeonju Hanok Village, Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is worth stopping by.
Even though it's located in a tourist area, the portion was generous, there was no chicken smell, and it wasn't stiff or chewy — satisfying overall. Best of all, it was delicious both fresh out of the fryer and after being packed to go and cooling down. Good for eating a piece at a time while sightseeing in the Hanok Village, and just as good packed back to your accommodation as a late-night snack. I ended up taking it home for a late-night snack, and it was so good I finished every last piece.

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's Hanok Village store has no dedicated parking lot. On weekends especially, some roads in the Hanok Village are closed to vehicles. Rather than trying to drive close to the shop, it's better to park at the Hanok Village public parking lot and walk in to explore. When a craving hits while wandering around, it's easy to stop by and grab dakgangjeong to go.
