Today I went to Seongsu with my mom for some good Korean beef. I found Marblejeong while looking for a Seongsu lunch spot for a group meal — turns out they discount their grade 1++ beef mixed grill at lunchtime, which is great if you want to eat proper hanwoo (Korean beef) at lunch like we did.

Marblejeong exterior on the 2nd floor of the building

It's on the 2nd floor of the building, and the exterior gave off a clean, calm feel that felt a bit different from a typical BBQ joint. I thought it'd work well not just for family meals but for company gatherings or lunch outings too.

Inside Marblejeong: are the private rooms good for group meals?

The interior is done mostly in black tones, giving it a clean yet upscale feel. Seating is generous and there's a room space too, so it seemed like a good fit for family gatherings or company outings with several people.

What I liked most was being able to eat grade 1++ hanwoo at this price with the lunch discount. My mom, who came out for a good meal, was thrilled too. Isn't that the whole point of a family meal out? Haha.

What is on Marblejeong's self-serve bar?

There was a self-serve bar with peppers, onions, garlic, plus wrapping greens like lettuce, perilla leaves, and napa cabbage.

There was also kimchi, diced radish kimchi, tteokbokki, and japchae, which were nice to mix in between bites of meat. I especially liked being able to grab plenty of wrapping greens at a BBQ place.

Table setting and the four sauces at Marblejeong

Marblejeong basic table setup with Maldon salt and wasabi

The basic table setup was quite generous too. Maldon salt and wasabi came standard, along with shiitake wasabi and perilla pesto for something a bit different.

Hanwoo tastes great with just simple salt or wasabi, but having several sauces made it fun to try different cuts different ways.

Grade 1++ beef mixed grill 400g with sirloin, brisket point, and beef belly

Grade 1++ mixed grill 400g: sirloin, beef belly and brisket

Finally, our grade 1++ beef mixed grill arrived. It was sirloin, brisket point, and beef belly, served with mushrooms, asparagus, and garlic.

The color of the meat was vivid and the marbling was deep, so I was excited before it even hit the grill. I wondered if 400g would be small, but between the two of us plus the sides, it was plenty for lunch.

One thing I really liked was that the staff grilled the meat for us! The taste can really change depending on how it's cooked, and since staff grilled it while watching the doneness, we could just relax and chat while we waited. I think this kind of service would be pretty convenient for anyone looking for a Seongsu group lunch spot.

Personally, I liked the wasabi pairing best. The nutty richness of the fat combined with wasabi's sharp kick left my mouth feeling clean, not heavy.

The more I chewed, the more that savory beefy flavor came through, and the juiciness stayed, giving me that rich grade 1++ hanwoo taste.

Beef belly vs brisket: how the two cuts differ in texture

Next up: brisket point and beef belly! Even though it's all beef, the texture varies by cut, which made it fun to try each one.

Since beef belly (chadolbagi) is thin, it cooked quickly once on the grill. The slightly crispy parts had a rich, nutty fat flavor, and eating it with wrapping greens cut the greasiness.

Adding a bit of wasabi brought a sharp kick after the nuttiness, which I personally thought paired really well.

Brisket point grilling on the pan

The brisket point had more of that meaty texture compared to beef belly. With a good amount of fat marbled in, the nutty flavor built up with each chew, and it had good juiciness too — I enjoyed the brisket point just as much.

Grade 1++ beef mixed grill, cuts grilled separately

Since the flavor differs by cut, ordering the grade 1++ mixed grill is more fun than sticking to one cut — you get to find the one that suits your taste.

Finishing with doenjang sulbap, ppeongtwigi and Häagen-Dazs

When eating meat, it's nice to finish with a warm dish like doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) or doenjang sulbap (soybean paste rice).

Marblejeong doenjang sulbap

Eating rice with the savory doenjang base helped reset my palate after all that rich meat — I was glad we ordered it alongside the hanwoo.

Ppeongtwigi served after the meal

At the end, they gave us ppeongtwigi (puffed rice snack) like a little gift. After all that meat, snacking on the crunchy pieces one by one hit the spot, haha.

And then Häagen-Dazs on top of that! I wasn't expecting dessert, so it was a nice surprise to end the meal on a good note. Finishing hanwoo with ice cream made it feel like a proper, complete lunch.
