A hearty, smoky feast of charcoal-grilled freshwater eel and duck neck meat, all-you-can-eat from the self-serve bar — a Seongsu local favorite, Songnim Bok Jangeo.
Where is Songnim Bok Jangeo in Seongsu, and what is it like inside?
Songnim Bok Jangeo's Seongsu branch sits deep in a Seongsu alley, on the 1st floor at 148 Seongdeokjeong-gil. Unlimited freshwater eel, plus all-you-can-eat pork belly and duck neck meat — I was excited even before walking in!

The eel was soaked through with charcoal aroma, and the duck neck meat was good enough to rival a dedicated duck restaurant. With a free bottle of bokbunja on top, I left with a full stomach and a good mood.

The all-you-can-eat deal runs for 2 hours at ₩29,900! Tucked away in a Seongsu alley, it felt like a hidden gem that a lot of neighborhood locals frequent. It's great for a stop while exploring the area, and also works well for a family meal or a group gathering.

The interior had a clean yet cozy Korean BBQ vibe. Tables were spaced generously and group seating was well set up, so it'd be great for a loud, lively gathering with a bunch of people. Takeout is available too, so packing up leftovers after the meal is an option. The owner and staff were friendly, which made for a relaxed, no-pressure meal.
Unlimited freshwater eel for 29,900 won: staff grill the first round
I ordered Songnim Bok Jangeo's signature dish: unlimited freshwater eel at ₩29,900 per adult. For the first round, the staff kindly grilled a mix of eel, pork belly, and duck neck meat for us.

Eating the eel grilled golden brown over the hot charcoal, the subtle charcoal aroma wafted through, crispy outside and juicy inside — so good.

No fishy taste at all — just tender and savory. Wrapped with a bit of teriyaki sauce and shredded ginger, it was pure honey. The side dishes were varied too — green onion kimchi, perilla leaves, pickled onions, and more — so the meal felt complete.

The complimentary bottle of bokbunja wine
Eel goes with bokbunja, of course!! I was actually about to order some, but they gave us a bottle for free. The sweet, sharp bokbunja paired perfectly with the eel, duck neck, and pork belly.

Duck neck and pine needle-aged pork belly: more memorable than the eel
The eel at Songnim Bok Jangeo was delicious, but the duck neck meat here was seriously outstanding! It was savory and chewy enough to pass for a dedicated duck restaurant. Grilled golden over the charcoal, it had a springy texture packed with savory juices — I refilled it again and again.

The pork belly was aged with pine needles, so there was no gamey smell, and the quality was great — a good balance of fat and lean meat that I really enjoyed.

How does the all-you-can-eat self-serve bar work?
At Songnim Bok Jangeo's self-serve bar, you can freely grab fresh freshwater eel, pork belly, and duck neck meat. No need to feel awkward about it — the bar was kept clean and organized, so I could take as much as I wanted.
