Picking a place when you're meeting up with a friend you haven't seen in a while is oddly stressful. Korean BBQ spots especially — someone's always stuck holding the tongs, grilling away, and the conversation ends up in fits and starts. But the place I found this time while looking for a Gyodae Station dinner spot was different.
A staff member grilled everything from start to finish, so we just sat and talked. There's a reason the tables fill up fast in the evening — everyone from office dinner groups to old friends catching up.

The place I visited is Sodangkkae O-gyeopjip Gyodae Main Branch, on the 2nd floor of 84-3 Seochodae-ro 50-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul.
It's about a 3–5 minute walk from Gyodae Station Exit 14, tucked slightly into an alley off the main road. I worried I'd get lost at first, but the big signboard made it easy to spot.
The restaurant name is displayed prominently on the building's exterior on the first floor, and just one flight of stairs up brings you right to the entrance — great accessibility for a Gyodae Station dinner spot.
What comes in the Sodangkkae Assorted Set: pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl and yukhoe
We ordered the Sodangkkae Assorted Set. It comes with pork belly, pork neck, and pork jowl all at once, plus yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), and you could tell right away the meat quality was solid.
The staff cut it into perfect pieces as it grilled — golden and crisp outside, juicy inside — with no gamey smell at all, so it was easy to keep reaching for more.
Adding seasoned honeycomb tripe for 10,000 won
We also added spicy honeycomb tripe on top. It was thick-cut with the seasoning soaked all the way through, giving it a chewy bite that was great even without alcohol — I kept picking at it like a side dish.
Doenjang jjigae and yukhoe (raw beef) at Sodangkkae
For the stew, we went with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). After eating meat for a while you inevitably start feeling a bit greasy, but the savory, refreshing soybean broth cut right through it every time. Ordering the assorted set also meant we didn't have to stress over menu choices. The yukhoe in particular came out midway through the grilling — breaking the egg yolk over it with the fresh pear strips was absolutely excellent.
Staff grilling at the table and free side dish refills
Whenever a side dish or sauce ran even slightly low, staff refilled it right away without us needing to ask — nothing to worry about at all. I think this kind of detail is exactly why I'd recommend this place as a Gyodae Station dinner spot. Service that takes care of things before you even ask makes a surprisingly big difference.
The one downside: Sodangkkae gets loud in the evening
There was one downside, though. Once evening properly set in, office dinner groups poured in and the whole place got pretty noisy. If you want a quiet conversation, I'd recommend booking an earlier time slot.
On the flip side, if you're looking for a lively spot to enjoy with a group, that evening time slot would actually be perfect. Booking ahead through Naver Reservation meant our table was already set when we arrived, so we could sit right down without waiting. 🍽️
After this visit, I definitely want to come back. The lunch menu lineup looks good too, so next time I'm thinking of dropping by alone on a weekday lunch. Whether it's a work dinner or catching up with an old friend, if you want a place where you can just focus on the conversation, I don't think there's a better Gyodae Station dinner spot. 😋
