Dongdaegu Station brunch café with three floors: Baut

In short

Baut is a three-story brunch café near Dongdaegu Station in Dong-gu, Daegu. We enjoyed the green onion jambon sandwich, cauliflower potato cream soup, and rich latte, but keeping up with our child was hectic without a high chair or elevator. Verdict: Great for brunch, though families should plan their seating and route ahead.

Because of a headache-inducing Carrot Market giveaway transaction, we found ourselves near Dongdaegu Station for a little while. To soothe our stressed-out hearts, we decided to visit Baut (바우트), a café said to be known for its atmospheric interior and delicious brunch.

Baut Café's blue gate really stood out. The building itself already had a strong modern feel, and since all three floors are used as the café, it looked quite substantial in size.

There is parking once you head inside the café building, but it is on the tight side, so we parked along the nearby roadside and walked over. (Especially on weekends, beware: you might not find a spot!)

As soon as we entered the first-floor café space, the modern yet atmospheric interior caught my eye.

We visited on a weekend afternoon, so there were not many desserts left, but brunch dishes are made to order. We ordered a few drinks and brunch items, then headed up to the second floor.

There is no elevator, so you need to use the stairs. That is something worth keeping in mind if you are visiting with a child.

Second-Floor Seating and High Chairs

There was a good mix of two- and four-person tables, and they were spaced farther apart than I expected, so it was comfortable to use. There were no high chairs, so we had Yoon-tteuri sit on a regular chair while we spent time together. But, as expected, without a high chair they kept wandering around, and both my husband and I were all over the place trying to keep up. I was so on edge, worrying that we might inconvenience other guests 😥 It feels like we are especially realizing the need for a high chair these days.

(The restroom is on the second floor.)

The third floor also had a few two- and four-person tables, along with a group table that can seat eight, so it seemed like a nice option for a group gathering.

Brunch and Drinks Ordered at Baut

Both my husband and I had skipped a meal before coming, so we thought it would be nice to fill up properly. We each ordered a drink, plus a soup and a sandwich.

There was nothing Yoon-tteuri could eat with us, so we briefly distracted them with baby bread we had brought from home and decided to enjoy our brunch time. (Though it was only very brief......)

Natural light fell onto the buttery-colored table, and even quick snapshots came out pretty, so I took several shots.

Every drink and brunch dish looked so appetizing and pretty.

Baut Coffee

This nutty, rich latte was topped with sweet, soft cream. If you simply sip it down, you can taste the latte more intensely; if you mix the cream all the way in, it becomes a sweeter latte. The latte itself was quite rich, so personally, I loved it.

Matcha Cream Strawberry Latte

Baut matcha cream strawberry latte

The matcha cream strawberry latte was my husband’s pick, since he usually loves strawberry lattes. The dense, rich, smooth matcha cream was even tastier than expected—honestly, how could this possibly be bad?! It paired so well with the sweet strawberry latte. My husband was very satisfied too ⭐

Green Onion Jambon Sandwich

The green onion jambon sandwich came with green onion dressing, arugula, onion sultanas, jambon, and walnuts inside a crisp baguette. The baguette felt a little hard and would not cut easily with a knife, so I took small bites directly instead. (My teeth are on the sensitive side, so biting into it was a bit difficult.) But the more I chewed, the more beautifully the nutty baguette and the salty, nutty, flavor-packed fillings came together. I was especially pleased by how nicely the subtle green onion aroma and jambon worked together!

Cauliflower Potato Cream Soup

I ordered the cauliflower potato cream soup because I wanted something hot. I expected a mild flavor, but it was saltier and more savory than I thought, which surprised me—in a good way~ One spoonful of hot soup warmed my stomach, and the smooth soup went down so easily. Tearing off some of the bread served alongside and dipping it deeply into the soup made for such a delicious nutty, savory bite.

We could not have a leisurely brunch time because we were taking care of Yoon-tteuri... We had to wolf it down and get up in a flash, like roasting beans in lightning... Still... we were grateful to have tried the delicious coffee and brunch dishes, and after that short time, we headed on our way. If you are looking for a decent brunch café near Dongdaegu Station, I think you would really enjoy visiting Baut (바우트) ✨️
