Daejeon restaurant with a ₩50,700 octopus set for three: Boksakkot

I was trying to figure out dinner with my mom and dad, and it had been a while, so we headed to Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch. From octopus to wood-fired pizza to the self-bar and dessert, we got to enjoy a really generous spread — perfect for a family meal out. Let me walk you through it!

Where is Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch, and is there parking?

Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch is located at 238-34 Wongyesan-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon (305-10 Gyesan-dong). It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:30, with last order at 20:30.

Located in Gyesan-dong, Daejeon, Boksakkot is close to Sutonggol, making it a good spot for family gatherings. There's a large parking lot right in front, and there's also a separate café space next door so you can grab coffee right after your meal.

Inside Boksakkot: seating, atmosphere and the kids' room

Inside Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch, there are various tables ranging from 4-seaters to 6-seaters. The space is quite spacious, with about 150 seats total, so seating feels relaxed.

Thanks to the clean, spacious layout, it seems like a great spot not just for family meals but also group gatherings or work dinners.

There were a lot of families there when I visited, actually. My own family has been coming here regularly for years as our go-to spot for family meals.

On top of that, they've got high chairs, a kids' room, and even a kids' menu — the facilities and options for young ones are well thought out.

Ordering is simple through the table order tablets set up at each table. Every menu item comes with a photo, so it's easy to order even on your first visit.

Boksakkot menu and what the octopus set includes

At Boksakkot you'll find a range of fire-grilled dishes like fire-grilled webfoot octopus stir-fry, fire-grilled long-arm octopus stir-fry, spicy stir-fried pork, and octopus with green onion. Beyond the spicy options, there's mushroom bulgogi hot pot and braised beef short ribs, plus kid-favorites like handmade sirloin pork cutlet and kids' spaghetti, along with plenty of side dishes — great for enjoying with family.

Also, ordering any set menu for 2 or more comes with handmade wood-fired pizza, salad, muk-saval, and ground coffee included.

We ordered the fire-grilled octopus stir-fry set for 3 (₩50,700).

The side dishes that come with the set

When you order, the basics come out first: bean sprouts, beet-radish pickles, young radish kimchi, and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles). If you need refills or other side dishes, you can freely help yourself at the self-bar.

Since we ordered the octopus set menu, salad and muk-saval came along too. The salad had a nice tangy dressing that whet the appetite, and the muk-saval was sweet and sour, pairing well with the spicy octopus.

And there was also a bowl of lettuce and seaweed flakes provided so you can mix the fire-grilled octopus stir-fry with rice.

What's on the unlimited self-bar?

At the Boksakkot self-bar, drinks are unlimited and free, and you can freely help yourself to various side dishes too. There was japchae, pickled garlic stems, pickled aster scaber, seasoned bean sprouts, beet-radish pickles, young radish kimchi, plus rice, seaweed soup, and even scorched rice tea. Unlimited drinks, rice, soup, and side dishes — honestly, that's amazing, ha ,, ♥

How the gorgonzola wood-fired pizza tastes

The pizza included in the set lets you choose between gorgonzola and pepperoni, but obviously gorgonzola pairs best with octopus .ᐟ The gorgonzola pizza came served with honey.

The gorgonzola pizza came out nice and warm, the cheese stretched beautifully, and the crust was thin and crispy. Rich and savory, and even better dipped in honey — need I say more 🤍 My mom and dad enjoyed it too, haha.

How spicy is level 1 fire-grilled octopus stir-fry?

Boksakkot's octopus stir-fry lets you choose spice level 1, 2, or 3 — we went with level 1. Level 1 was just the right amount, a savory, mildly spicy flavor. I'm pretty weak with spice, and this was exactly the right level of kick for me. Level 2 is apparently about 1.5 times spicier than Shin Ramyun, so keep that in mind when ordering.

The octopus came stir-fried with cabbage, onion, and more. Sesame seeds were sprinkled on top, giving it an appetizing look. 🐙

The octopus pieces were big too, and one bite in — that chewy, plump texture was spot on! The spicy sauce combined with the smoky fire-grilled flavor made it seriously delicious. You know it's hard to find a place that really nails octopus, right..? Boksakkot does it well.

So I put rice in the bowl, topped it with octopus, then piled on plenty of bean sprouts from the side dishes and mixed it all together.

✓ Pro tip here! I recommend grabbing plenty of bean sprouts from the self-bar and loading them on generously. The crunchy texture of the bean sprouts makes both the texture and flavor way better. 😋

Free coffee and retro snacks in the café space next door

After eating, head to the counter to pick up the takeout coffee or tea that's included in the set menu. You can then enjoy your drink at leisure in the café space right next to the restaurant. I got an iced Americano to go.

And right next to the self-bar, they also sell a variety of snacks and ice cream.

Taking your drink over to the café space right next door — ta-da! — you get to enjoy all sorts of snacks for free. There's a good variety, so I think kids especially would love it, haha.

I happily worked through my iced Americano and some oranda crackers. The oranda crackers here are seriously good too...
