Tonkatsu restaurant at the Sharosu-gil entrance in Seoul: Gosh Gosh
In short
Gosh Gosh Seoul National University Station branch is a katsu and soba restaurant right in front of Exit 4 of Seoul National University Station, at the entrance to Sharosu-gil in Gwanak, Seoul. The order was toowoomba soba, rosu katsu (pork loin cutlet) and a side of gara-age (Japanese-style fried chicken), served with basic banchan of san-gochu (mild green peppers) and diced radish kimchi, plus barley rice to mix into the leftover soba sauce. Gosh Gosh has several bar seats so solo dining is easy, and the only letdown was rosu katsu arriving without wasabi or salt.

The Gosh Gosh menu and what I ordered

This visit I ordered a variety — toowoomba soba, rosu katsu, and gara-age!
The basic table setting at Gosh Gosh

The basic banchan (side dishes) were san-gochu (mild green peppers) and diced radish kimchi! You can order more through the table order system, so keep that in mind
How did the toowoomba soba taste?

The toowoomba soba I was most looking forward to had its own charm compared to regular soba! The savory, smooth creamy sauce blended with the soba noodles gave it a unique flavor, and I could really feel the chewy texture of the noodles haha. It's the kind of dish that could easily get heavy, but the clean, light taste of the soba noodles kept it from feeling too rich haha. It was my first time trying this combination and it worked surprisingly well — I really enjoyed it. Highly recommend this menu!!

Side gara-age: dip it in sauce or eat it plain?
The gara-age I ordered as a side dish was also unmissable! Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, the texture was really good. It was bite-sized and easy to share as a side, and the combination of crispy batter and tender chicken was satisfying haha. Dipping the gara-age in sauce was tasty too, but I actually preferred eating it plain without the sauce haha. Just for reference~~ (It was also good dipped in the toowoomba soba sauce haha)

Rosu katsu: how the breading and pork balance out
The rosu katsu was fried crispy on the outside while staying moist and tender inside, and I liked the texture. With the first bite you could feel the juiciness and savory flavor of the meat, so even though it's a basic menu item, it was really satisfying. Pork katsu can get heavy fast if the breading is too thick, but the balance between the meat and breading here was good, so I could enjoy it all the way through. It was tasty dipped in sauce, and eating it plain let me fully taste the meat itself too. The pepper sprinkled on top helped cut through the richness here and there, so I ate it happily. It was a bit of a shame there was no wasabi or salt, but I still enjoyed it haha

The shrimp were super plump and the bacon was thick too, so eating them together with the soba was so delicious haha

Barley rice mixed into the leftover soba sauce
Along with the toowoomba soba, rice came out for mixing with the leftover soba sauce, and it wasn't regular white rice but barley rice, which I loved haha. The barley's distinctive springy, poppy texture made for a different kind of treat when mixed with the soba sauce. Being able to use up the leftover sauce with the rice meant I could eat a hearty, satisfying meal right to the end
Final verdict on Gosh Gosh
I especially want to recommend the toowoomba soba to anyone who wants their usual soba or katsu to feel a little different!! It felt like a familiar dish with a new combination added, so it was easy to try. Overall the menu was varied, so it was great for sharing several dishes, and also satisfying as a hearty solo meal. If I visit again, I'd like to try the other menu items one by one :)
