It had been a while since I wanted to treat my partner to something delicious — not the usual, but something with real character! After much deliberation, I finally visited Modak Texas Barbecue, a place I'd always wondered about whenever I passed by Dongdaegu Station and caught its unmistakable American vibe.

Location and parking

Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch sits right at the entrance to the alley packed with famous restaurants near Dongdaegu Station. It's positioned toward the front of that cluster, so it's an easy walk.

If you spot a red brick building with lettering that screams American style, you've found the right place.

Parking isn't right in front, but there's a nearby lot you can use. You can park at the MD Building's attached lot at 26 Dongbu-ro 32-gil, and get 1.5 hours free if you spend over ₩50,000 on food.
Atmosphere and group seating
I visited on a Saturday at 1:30pm, and the place was fully packed — I could barely find one open seat. Saturday lunch usually starts winding down a bit by 1:30pm, but this place was clearly super popular and well-loved!

I only managed to snap a shot of the full dining room after we'd slowly finished eating and everyone else had cleared out haha. The tables are well-spaced, and there are several 4-seat tables, so combining a few makes it perfect for small group gatherings! They actually do offer private hire too, for groups of up to 30 people.
Cactus views, neon signs, and an interior with that Texas saloon-attached-to-a-stable vibe — the theme was fully committed.
Apparently you have to request the tomahawk steak in advance! Meat that gets prepped only after you reserve it — now that's intriguing. Today's visit was a spur-of-the-moment thing so it wasn't possible, but I'll definitely mention it ahead of time for a birthday or anniversary next time. >_<

Wine, cocktails, beer — plenty to enjoy *_* Whenever I visit a restaurant I always have to check out the liquor cabinet. Can't help myself, incorrigible drinker that I am~~
Menu lineup and prices

Being a barbecue specialist, they had a wide range of menu items — signature steaks, platters, and more. Usually when I order meat I struggle to gauge how much to get and end up deliberating forever, but here everything is neatly organized by set size for a set number of people, which made ordering easy!
- Tomahawk course for 2 ₩220,000
- Tomahawk set for 3 ₩260,000
- Tomahawk set for 4 ₩280,000
- Ghee butter tenderloin steak ₩75,000
- Ribeye steak ₩64,000

There are also platter sets so you can try a variety of cuts. I loved that they're not just meat — there are sides like fries and tortillas too. A truly healthy meal needs carbs alongside the protein, right >_<
And you know how in One Piece or old American Western movies, they're always eating meat with beer, tucking it into dinner rolls — I always drooled a little watching that and thought it looked so cool (?). Well, this menu is perfect for living out that fantasy. (haha)
- Cowboy platter for 4 ₩187,000
- Carolina platter for 3 ₩127,000
- Modak platter set for 3 ₩92,000
- Texas platter set for 2 ₩57,000

It's not just meat dishes — there are also pastas, risottos, and other extras.
- Shrimp rosé ravioli ₩16,000
- Shrimp squid ink pasta ₩16,000
- Shrimp cream pasta ₩15,000
- Shrimp aglio e olio ₩13,000
- Cheese garlic shrimp rice ₩15,000

A new item had just launched when I visited — the "Texas Lobster" for ₩19,800. Lobster at that price? I had to know more! On top of lobster, you can add more meat too, and there's a great whiskey and wine selection. The whiskey lineup looked like great value and paired really well with the menu!
Honest review: Texas platter for two and cheese garlic shrimp rice
We ordered two things: the Texas platter for two and cheese garlic shrimp rice. It came out beautifully arranged on the platter — genuinely gorgeous *_*

The complimentary nachos and tomato soup
Once you're seated, they bring out nachos and what I think was tomato soup as a starter — and this tomato soup was an absolute standout! It's a tomato base with a spicy kick, almost like a witch's brew — somewhere between tomato soup, ragu sauce, and dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken), and it was exactly my taste.

Is the Texas platter for two enough food?
The Texas platter for two came with 150g brisket, 130g pulled pork, 3 wings, plus fries, tortilla, salad, and sauces. My partner is honestly a big eater, so I worried it might not be enough — but not at all... eating it together, we were completely full!

This was my first time trying brisket, and it tasted kind of like pulled pork made into bacon.

So generous, right? Eaten this way, it's enough to leave one big-eater woman and one man stuffed to bursting. The cheese shrimp garlic rice comes in a size that's basically a washbasin. (hahahahahaha)
What made it fun was wrapping the meat however you like, essentially building your own combination each time!

Dinner roll and tortilla combos with 6 sauces
There are 6 different sauces — barbecue, salsa, ketchup-style — plus chopped pickles, whole pickles, and cabbage salad, so you can stuff them into a tortilla or dinner roll however you like. The number of possible combinations is uncountable! (hahahahahahaha)

My favorite combo was a dinner roll with pulled pork, cabbage salad, chopped pickles, ketchup, and barbecue sauce. The photo shows brisket, but personally I think brisket tastes better with tortilla.

Washbasin-sized cheese garlic shrimp rice
As I mentioned earlier — the washbasin... the washbasin-sized cheese garlic shrimp rice has arrived.
And it really lives up to the name — whole cloves of garlic packed in generously. As a garlic-loving Korean, this was genuinely delicious. >_< The savory richness of the cheese combined with the sharp kick of the garlic was a dream! Though my partner and I did smell like garlic all day afterward, ha.
The shrimp were also whole, and it felt like they weren't skimping on ingredients at all. After eating so much meat, I kept craving rice over bread, so this was the perfect pairing with the platter.

Do I even need to mention the wings.. Buffalo wings, always a steady favorite! Pork, then chicken, then pork again — a lineup that suits any taste.
And these smiley potato fries — nice to see them again, they were beaming happily at me from the platter, so I ate every single one. ㅎ_ㅎ
Final verdict: a good group spot near Dongdaegu Station?

I was totally absorbed in the fun of mixing and matching combinations. The flavors were fun, the mix-and-match style was fun, and enjoying all the new, varied textures was fun — a distinctive restaurant with all three kinds of fun.
The place is clean and well-managed, plus the menu lineup is great for treating guests, so it would be perfect for group dinners, wedding-invitation gatherings, wedding receptions, birthday parties, or any special occasion.
