Hi there :) This time I wanted to try something unusual for dessert in Seongsu, so I headed to Childish! They make their own bakery menu in-house, and I was especially curious about the salted taiyaki, so I decided to check it out haha. We ordered the Filipino ube bingsu, salted taiyaki, and a couple of drinks, so here's the full review ~ ♥

Finding Childish from the street

Childish sits in a Seongsu back alley, on the 2nd floor of the building! The CHD logo is visible right from the entrance, so it wasn't hard to find at all haha.
Inside the second-floor café at Childish
The 2nd floor at Childish is bright overall, with sunlight pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Once inside, the space was bigger than expected with plenty of tables, so it seemed like a comfortable spot to settle in ~

And tucked inside, there's a space where they actually make the bakery menu by hand! Seeing the baking happening right there in the store made me trust it more and look forward to the food even more haha.

On one side, they even had blankets set out for customers to use! Little touches like that made it feel even more comfortable to hang out ~
Childish menu board and the salted bread display

Looking over the Childish menu, there was a huge range from coffee to bingsu to bakery items! We agonized a bit and picked the things we most wanted to try haha.

On one side, various kinds of salted bread were on display, and there were more varieties than I expected, so it was fun just to look around! They also had cute keyring goods for sale, so it was nice browsing those alongside the bread :)
What we ordered at Childish and what it cost
What we ordered at Childish: Filipino ube bingsu ₩20,900, salted taiyaki ₩4,500, Buljangnan cream coffee ₩6,900, and Americano ₩4,500.
- Filipino ube bingsu - ₩20,900
- Salted taiyaki - ₩4,500
- Buljangnan cream coffee - ₩6,900
- Americano - ₩4,500
When everything we ordered came out together filling the table, it looked so pretty just visually haha.

What does Childish's Filipino ube bingsu taste like?
The Filipino ube bingsu at Childish is ₩20,900 — a purple-hued shaved ice topped with nuts and jelly, served with ube syrup on the side. Let me introduce this one first! The purple color alone is gorgeous, and with the toppings on top, the whole thing looked really pretty?!
The ube syrup came out alongside the bingsu! I was curious about the bingsu's own flavor, but also about how much the syrup would change things haha.
So I went ahead and generously drizzled the ube syrup over the bingsu ~ Once the syrup went onto the purple shaved ice, the ube flavor got even richer haha.

There were also nuts and jelly on top of the ube bingsu, so the soft shaved ice combined with the nutty crunch and chewy jelly gave it varied textures ~

Scooping up a bite with the nuts and jelly together, the distinct sweet, nutty flavor of ube really came through! With the toppings mixed in it tasted even better :)

Childish's signature salted taiyaki
The salted taiyaki at Childish is ₩4,500, a signature item topped with butter. And this was the one I was most looking forward to! With the butter sitting prettily on top, it looked clearly different from a regular taiyaki haha.

Cutting it in half, the inside looked appetizing too! The outside looked crisp and the inside looked chewy, so I wanted to dig in right away ~
I took a bite and — wow... I immediately understood why it's Childish's signature item haha. They say it's made with rice flour, 100% unsalted dairy butter, and low gluten, and maybe that's why the outside was crisp and the inside chewy — genuinely delicious!!

It was too good to stop at one bite, so after that I cut the rest into bite-sized pieces haha. Nibbling on it piece by piece, my hand kept reaching for more ♥

Dipping the salted taiyaki in leftover ube syrup
There was leftover ube syrup from the bingsu, so I tried dipping the salted taiyaki into it. Since there was extra ube syrup, I dipped the salted taiyaki right in..! The combination of ube syrup and salted taiyaki worked out way better than expected, so I'd recommend trying it this way too haha.

Buljangnan cream coffee and Americano at Childish
For drinks, we ordered the Buljangnan cream coffee for ₩6,900 and an Americano for ₩4,500! An Americano goes well with sweet desserts as always, and the cream coffee stood out visually right away ~

The Buljangnan cream coffee had marshmallows on top, and taking a bite, it was sweet and soft — really delicious! Eating it alongside the coffee felt like enjoying a dessert haha.

Underneath the marshmallow was a layer of cream, and the texture of that cream was seriously bouncy!? It was soft yet chewy, so personally I enjoyed it quite a lot :)

There was also a little jelly-like snack you could take one of, so it felt like they were looking after small details right down to the end, which left me leaving in a good mood haha.
Is Childish in Seongsu worth a visit?
Childish was a great spot to visit when you want something a bit special for dessert in Seongsu! The salted taiyaki I'd been looking forward to was really delicious — the crisp-yet-chewy texture with the butter on top kept my hand reaching for more haha. On top of that, the Filipino ube bingsu with its ube syrup and nut-and-jelly toppings was unique and tasty too ~
Finishing off with the sweet Buljangnan cream coffee, it felt like we'd had a satisfying spread from dessert to drinks ♥ If you're looking for something more unusual than the usual Seongsu dessert, like the salted taiyaki or ube bingsu, this place is worth a stop :)
