Seongsu brunch café with kids: mammoth chewy salted taiyaki, Childish
In short
Childish is a rice-flour salted bread and salted taiyaki bakery café on the second floor of a building at the end of Yeonmujang-gil in Seongsu, Seoul. Stopping in with family during a weekend morning walk through the pop-up streets, we made brunch of pizza salted taiyaki, a salted bread x taiyaki set of four, mammoth chewy salted taiyaki, Taiwanese-style mango bingsu, and chocolate, vanilla, and matcha lattes. With floor-to-ceiling windows and plants throughout, Childish works well as a weekend brunch stop with a child.

We headed out to Seongsu with family for a weekend outing after a while. With so many different pop-up stores opening around Seongsu these days, wandering around is fun in itself, so we left the house early in the morning.
Strolling slowly along Yeonmujang-gil, we eventually made our way near Yeongdong Bridge. Since we'd left so early, we hadn't had a proper breakfast, so we wanted to rest somewhere cozy where we could relax and fill up at the same time.

Looking around, we searched for a good Seongsu café recommendation for a light brunch of sweet desserts and hearty bread. While looking for a place to relax comfortably with the kid, we came across a spot with a buzz around its unique menu and went in.
Childish hours and location in Seongsu
Childish is a café on the second floor of a building at 114 Yeonmujang-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 21:00, closed every Monday. You'll pass it if you walk along Yeonmujang-gil from Seongsu Station.
What the Childish building looks like at the end of Yeonmujang-gil

Walking a good while down Yeonmujang-gil, you come upon Childish tucked away on the second floor of a building. Instead of a flashy, busy sign, what caught my eye first was the simple English initials CHD etched onto the second-floor glass and a stylish standee out front.
On the wall by the first-floor stairway entrance, the letters CHD were also written in clean white lettering, confirming right away this was the place.

The standee beside the entrance had mouth-watering drawings of fresh mango bingsu (shaved ice dessert) and Filipino ube bingsu, along with mentions of the unusual taiyaki (fish-shaped pastry) menu that's currently a big hit on social media. Seeing the sweet visuals, the kid got excited and insisted we go up right away, so we headed up the stairs to the second floor.

At the top of the stairs, a stylish door finished with a fresh mint-colored trim and a clear English sign greeted us, and we opened the door with anticipation.
Inside Childish: plants, sunlight and window seating

Once inside, a much wider and more pleasant space than expected opened up. The ceiling height and floor area were generous enough that I thought it could even host private events comfortably, and the layout felt very well-planned.
Above all, one entire wall of the café was finished with a floor-to-ceiling window, letting warm natural light spill in and brighten the interior.

Most of the seats were arranged along the windows, so wherever you sat, you could enjoy a pleasant sense of openness without feeling boxed in.

The green-toned flooring and the plants placed carefully throughout the space came together to create a calm mood, as if you'd stepped into a refreshing little forest retreat. Along with the distinctive 2- and 3-seat table layouts, cute taiyaki props and plush figures were scattered around, making it a great photo zone for memory-worthy shots with the kid.
The atmosphere alone was relaxing enough that I'd want to recommend it to friends as a weekend outing spot — genuinely one of the appealing Seongsu café recommendations.
Childish menu: rice-flour salted bread and bakery lineup

Once we sat down and looked at the menu, the variety stood out — every bit as diverse as a proper bakery. Alongside a range of coffee and ade drinks, there were freshly baked bakery items, bingsu, and sandwiches too.

Childish makes its salted bread in-store, using rice flour and 100% unsalted butterfat to keep the gluten content low, baking it fresh daily on the premises.

As a parent, it was reassuring to know the bread is made honestly, without additives, so I could feed it to the kid without worry. To cover breakfast and lunch in one go, our family ordered pizza salted taiyaki, the salted bread x taiyaki set of four, and mammoth chewy salted taiyaki.
On top of that, we ordered a cooling Taiwanese-style mango bingsu, plus a Playing with Fire chocolate latte, a vanilla latte, and a slightly bitter matcha latte to round things out. Given that everything here is made with healthy ingredients and real care, the menu descriptions alone made clear this is a genuine Seongsu dessert spot worth its reputation.
Watching the salted taiyaki bake, then dessert at Childish
After ordering, looking over at the open kitchen, we could watch the staff baking the batter crisp the moment it was ordered. The unusual Seongsu-style taiyaki-making process — combining the salty, chewy texture of salted bread with the traditional taiyaki shape — was more than enough to catch the kid's attention.
Watching them pile a generous chunk of real butter onto the freshly, golden-baked bread was mouth-watering just to see.

Brought to the table, the first thing we tried was the salted bread x taiyaki — crisp on the outside, with the distinctive chewy bounce of rice flour on the inside, genuinely impressive. The salty seasoning and the savory butter flavor blended perfectly, delivering the kind of Seongsu taiyaki appeal that people of all ages would love.

The pizza salted taiyaki, piled with toppings, was full of savory depth, like eating a fancy mini pizza, while the mammoth chewy salted taiyaki struck a perfect balance of sweet jam, red bean filling, and chewy rice cake that kept us reaching for more.

Every variation of the bakery items delivered consistently excellent quality, leaving no doubt this is a genuine Seongsu dessert spot worth visiting.
The Taiwanese-style mango bingsu that came alongside was also impressive, with generously cut fresh mango practically spilling over the bowl. Made with 100% pure milk ice and no condensed milk mixed in, it kept the mango's natural, fresh flavor intact without any artificial sweetness.
How the three lattes at Childish tasted
The drink menu supported the excellent desserts perfectly. The Playing with Fire chocolate latte, with sweet, rich chocolate flavor topped with soft cream, had the kid amazed and emptying the cup in no time.
The matcha latte was clean with a deep, slightly bitter flavor without any heaviness, balancing well against the sweet bread, while the vanilla latte's deep coffee aroma and subtle vanilla scent brought a more refined touch to the chewy bread.
Is Childish worth a return visit with family?
We initially just stopped by on a whim to fill our stomachs while wandering the weekend pop-up streets, but it turned out to be a far better taste and a more relaxing space than expected. Thanks to the bread made with rice flour and unsalted butter, which sits easy on the stomach, brunch time with the kid was all the more enjoyable.
Stepping away from the busy everyday routine, basking in the warm sunlight pouring through the floor-to-ceiling window while enjoying delicious food, it felt like a whole week's worth of fatigue washed away. A Seongsu taiyaki specialty shop with such a distinctive, high-quality bakery lineup is hard to find, so this visit left a special memory for the whole family.
With clean flavors, honest ingredients, and a comfortable interior all in one package, this is a Seongsu dessert spot I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking for great bread and dessert. Whether for a light brunch gathering or a relaxed afternoon chat, be sure to add Childish to your list of Seongsu café recommendations.
