Today I'm introducing a Bucheon favorite, Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang (김명주뜰안채밥상) Bucheon Main Branch! I visited the restaurant, tucked into the green scenery on the slopes of Wonmisan. It's already famous for its steaming hot pot rice, savory cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), and a table loaded with 12 kinds of seasonal side dishes.
There's plenty of parking right in front of the restaurant, so I could park without any stress. This time I came to eat charcoal-grilled pork cooked over real charcoal, smoky and juicy through and through! From the tidy banchan to the main dish, everything here is on point — let me introduce Bucheon's well-known restaurant, Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch!

Wooden stairs to the 2nd floor: the entrance waiting area and how to join the waitlist
The way up to Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch is a wooden staircase to the second floor. There's a handrail alongside the steps, so if your legs are tired, hold onto it and take it slow. Notices are posted along the stairs too, reminding guests to always keep valuables with them rather than leaving them in the car.

As soon as you reach the top of the stairs, there's a waiting area right in front of the entrance. Several chairs are set up on one side so you can sit and wait comfortably, while the other side has a full glass window letting in plenty of sunlight. The menu and business hours are posted near the entrance too, so you can check them while you wait.

Right when you walk in, there's a Catch Table waitlist kiosk. You enter your phone number on the screen to register, and according to the instructions, you'll get a KakaoTalk alert when it's your turn. If your timing doesn't work out, you can also cancel or push back your spot in line, which seems really convenient when you need to wait.

Snack corner at the entrance and free coffee after your meal
Near the entrance of Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch, there's a little snack corner. It's set up perfectly for grabbing something sweet after your meal or a light gift to take home. On the bottom shelf are crispy, sweet miyo kkwabaegi (twisted doughnuts), and above that are various nostalgic snacks like savory tofu crackers and sesame crackers.
Prices are clearly posted right next to each item, so they're easy to check. It'd be great to grab a snack for the ride home, or pick up a few as a light gift for someone nearby.

Right at the entrance facing the door, there's a well-stocked coffee corner for after your meal! According to the posted notice, this free coffee isn't for use during your meal inside — it's meant for while you're waiting or on your way out after eating. It's a thoughtful touch: sip a warm cup while you wait, or grab one on your way out to finish the meal off nicely!

Further inside, there are separate restrooms for men and women.

What especially caught my eye while moving around were the large 'watch your step' notices posted on the walls and partitions. Since there's a gentle slope in the floor, they wrote in detail, 'please walk slowly and watch the floor.' It showed a real attention to guests' safety.
Banchan and cheonggukjang to go at ₩5,000 a pack
On one side of the restaurant, they sell the same thoughtfully made banchan (side dishes) and rich, savory cheonggukjang you can taste at the table, separately! They're neatly packaged in clear containers for an easy ₩5,000 a pack. If a side dish or the cheonggukjang really hit the spot during your meal, it's perfect to pack a pack or two to take home and enjoy as part of your own home-cooked meals!
Inside the restaurant and what the self-bar offers, and until when
Walking inside, the space felt bigger and more comfortable than I expected. The ceilings are high and the whole place has a clean, tidy atmosphere. On one side, a large floor-to-ceiling window keeps things from feeling closed in. With everything from 4-seat tables to larger group tables, it seemed like a great spot for family gatherings or group visits. I went during meal time and it was already bustling with guests — you could really feel why it's a well-known Bucheon restaurant!

Here's the self-bar set up on one side of the restaurant! There's a generous spread of fresh lettuce wraps, cool mul kimchi (water kimchi), and various namul (seasoned vegetables), doraji muchim (seasoned bellflower root), eggplant dishes, and braised baby potatoes — all tidy Korean side dishes. There's a warm rice cooker right next to it, so you can freely help yourself to more.
For reference, after 8pm the self-bar gets cleared for closing cleanup, but they said if you ask a staff member, they'll bring you any side dishes you need.
Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang menu and prices

Looking at the menu, it's divided between the freshly cooked pot rice set meals and the basic table setup. The set meals include borigulbi (dried yellow corvina) set, soy crab set, charcoal-grilled pork set (₩31,000 each), and cockle salad set, grilled mackerel set (₩29,000 each). (The pot rice takes about 15 minutes after ordering.) Beyond the sets, you can also mix the basic table, Tteuranchae Bapsang (₩13,000 per person), with à la carte dishes (₩16,000–18,000), so there's plenty of room to choose to your taste.

For origin, the rice for the pot rice, the cockles, the yellow crab used for the soy crab, and the pork for the charcoal grill are all domestic. The mackerel is Norwegian, the borigulbi (bused, or yellow corvina substitute) is Chinese (processed in Beopseongpo), and for the kimchi, the napa cabbage is domestic while the chili powder and the kimchi used for the cheonggukjang are Chinese — worth noting for reference.
What comes with the ₩31,000 charcoal-grilled pork set: a 12-dish table
My pick was the charcoal-grilled pork set + sikhye (sweet rice punch) + cider! The table comes standard with bottled water, paper cups, a menu, and a mini trash bin. Utensils and tissues are stored in a drawer beside the table, with a sticker instructing 'once the food arrives, please take out your utensils and tissue.'

When my food came out, more than 10 side dishes were neatly arranged in tidy brass bowls — I was genuinely surprised the moment I saw the table!
The main dish, charcoal-grilled pork, came piled generously on a hot plate lined with crunchy onions, sprinkled with fragrant sesame seeds and giving off a subtle charcoal aroma that really got my appetite going.
The cheonggukjang served alongside in a stone pot was also packed with savory beans and tofu, with a rich, deep broth.
From japchae (glass noodles) to various namul, sautéed eggplant, kimchi, and lettuce wraps, every side dish was mild and clean in seasoning, perfect to enjoy with rice.
The freshly made pot rice greets you with steam rising the moment you lift the lid, glossy grains of rice waiting inside. I scooped out the rice into a bowl first, then poured in warm water from the kettle.
To finish, I cleaned my palate with a warm, savory nurungji sungnyung (scorched-rice tea). Enjoying warmth all the way to the end made for a truly complete meal that left me feeling comfortable inside!
Final verdict: why Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang suits family meals and taking your parents out
Bucheon's Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang was a Korean restaurant that satisfied me on every front, from the spacious, comfortable atmosphere to the generous table spread. The combination of freshly cooked pot rice, smoky charcoal-grilled pork, and savory cheonggukjang was fantastic, and the more than 10 side dishes all had just the right seasoning, clean and tidy in flavor.
I especially loved being able to freely refill the carefully made side dishes, rice, and even cheonggukjang at the self-bar, and thoughtful touches like separate men's and women's restrooms inside and free coffee after the meal were well handled. Finishing off with a warm, soothing bowl of nurungji sungnyung made for a perfect ending — this is really a great place to visit for family gatherings or with your parents!

This post was written after receiving a complimentary meal from the restaurant, but it's an honest review based on visiting in person and tasting the menu myself.
