Haenggung-dong, Suwon brunch restaurant steak lunch: Nonchalant Lounge

The weather's been so sunny and nice lately — went for a lunch date with my husband to Haenggung-dong.

Why we chose Nonchalant Lounge for lunch in Haenggung-dong

Nonchalant Lounge is a brunch-and-Western restaurant on Jeongjo-ro in Haenggung-dong, Suwon. There are so many cafés and great restaurants in Haenggung-dong, but today I was looking for a spot with good atmosphere where I could also have a proper meal with steak and pasta, and that's how I ended up at Nonchalant Lounge. It's good for brunch and lunch during the day, and you can have a glass of wine in the evening too — the atmosphere is calm and pretty, so it fit well as a Haenggung-dong date spot.

Where Nonchalant Lounge is and where to park

It's about a 3-minute walk from Janganmun Gate, and about 7 minutes from Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion.

For parking, you can use the Hwahongmun public lot or the Jangan-dong public lot. The closest lot is at the NH Nonghyup Bank Suwon Bukmun branch, but the rate is a bit pricey. Nonchalant Lounge gives about ₩2,000 worth of parking support with a Naver reservation on weekdays Tuesday through Friday.

Inside Nonchalant Lounge: daytime mood and seating

On such a nice day the doors and windows were open, and the atmosphere was pouring out even from a glimpse inside.

Wow, the moment I walked in, the interior had such a cozy feeling — I loved it immediately.

There are several tables, and each one has a totally different mood and feel.

Seriously, I'm already in a good mood and I haven't even eaten yet.

It's the kind of atmosphere where you'd fall in love with your partner all over again haha.

Just sitting there feels healing.

The open kitchen has such a nice touch too.

They told us to sit wherever we liked, but it was hard to choose a seat.

We picked a back seat where a gentle breeze was coming in.

They have all kinds of drinks here — coffee, tea, beer, wine, highballs, ade, cold-pressed juice.

We ordered the Chuck Flap Steak Platter (₩37,000) + added Garlic Butter Rice (₩3,500), Classic Carbonara (₩15,000), Mushroom Soup with Baguette (₩8,000), and Grapefruit Ade (₩6,000).

Pretty tableware was set out first.

Ah, the table really came together beautifully.

I was already charmed by the gorgeous interior, and then the food arrives and my heart skips another beat.

Chuck flap steak platter with garlic butter rice, 37,000 won

The chuck flap steak platter is plated so beautifully. It comes with tomato, grilled mushroom, and asparagus as garnish, plus Maldon salt, butter galbi sauce, and whole grain mustard.

It came out at about medium rare, with a moist pink center left inside — exactly how I like it. The doneness is fixed based on the meat's condition that day, so you can't request it.

The meat is tender and delicious.

Why is the salt so pretty, like little crystals?

Even just a light sprinkle of Maldon salt gives off a subtle smoky aroma that I really liked.

The butter galbi sauce? It had a distinctive taste, different from the usual steak sauces — kind of like a hint of Indian curry, honestly unique, but delicious.

With the whole grain mustard on the side too.

Eating it with the garnishes makes the flavor even richer.

I'd really recommend adding the garlic butter rice.

This is seriously a perfect match with the steak. It's like a fluffier, less sticky rice, and that's exactly why it works so well.

Classic carbonara, 15,000 won

Nonchalant Lounge's Classic Carbonara (₩15,000) isn't a pasta swimming in sauce — it's the thick style where the sauce clings tightly to the noodles.

Parmesan cheese is piled on top like snow, with chunks of bacon and whole black peppercorns visible. Unlike regular carbonara, classic carbonara doesn't use cream — it's the authentic Roman-style pasta made with egg yolk. Not many places serve this, so it's a dish I'd been missing.

The sauce is really thick.

Loaded with bacon too.

Thick, but the sauce coats the noodles smoothly.

The bacon is salty and the sauce is quite rich, so overall it's a pretty heavy, weighty flavor. It was a touch salty for my taste. Rather than eating carbonara straight through, it worked better alternating bites with the steak or other dishes.

The house pickles were a real lifesaver here. So good.

Mushroom soup with baguette, 8,000 won

I ordered this because I already love soup.

Apparently they simmer it fresh every morning — this is seriously a must-order. Wow, I'm impressed.

The minced mushroom in the center really amplifies the soup's flavor.

It's ridiculously thick and rich. Every mushroom soup I've had before this was fake!! Truly deep mushroom flavor.

It's so deep and rich that I kept reaching for more, and we ran out of baguette.

Dipping the steak in it was also insanely good.

No cola with a meal this good. The grapefruit ade, such a pretty color, was refreshing to sip alongside. Very good.

Is Nonchalant Lounge worth a lunch date in Haenggung-dong?

Nonchalant Lounge was better for a proper meal date with steak and pasta than a brunch café where you just grab coffee. The atmosphere was great even during the day, so my husband and I got to eat slowly, chat about how everything tasted, and just enjoy ourselves. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for brunch in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, or wanting a nice drink and atmosphere in the evening.
