I went out for a light drink at a cozy Beomgye bar, perfect for these cool evenings. It's Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch, famous for its oden bar and izakaya snacks — the atmosphere is so warm and easy for chatting that it's become known as a go-to Beomgye izakaya date spot.

How long is the walk from Beomgye Station?

Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch is a 2–3 minute walk from Beomgye Station. It sits right between the central park and the station, so it's very easy to get to. Even the exterior catches your eye with its warm wood tones and straw-accented entrance.

Counter seats and window bar: what is the atmosphere like?

The interior feels pretty exotic, right? It's like a trip to a small Japanese town haha. There's a long counter running in front of the kitchen, good for a solo drink, and also nice for a date for two.

There's also a bar counter by the outside windows, perfect for soaking up that old-school pub feeling in this kind of weather. That's part of the charm too, haha.

We were guided to a table where we could chat comfortably. It was surprising to see that every table has its own built-in warmer for keeping the fish cakes hot.

Tablet ordering at Cheolgil Busanjip, starting with draft Hanmac beer

Ordering is easy — just use the tablet installed at each table. There happened to be a promotion running where ordering Hanmac beer entered you into a Busan International Film Festival giveaway. Since I was craving a cold draft beer, we quickly ordered draft Hanmac beer along with the fish cake set for two and sujigolbaengi.

Right after ordering, two freshly poured glasses of cold draft Hanmac beer arrived. The soft, thick foam on top made me thirsty just looking at it. We clinked glasses and took a satisfying sip — the day's tiredness just melted away, ㅠㅠ.

What comes in the fish cake set for two, and how the table warmer works

The fish cake set for two at Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch is a generous spread — curly fish cakes, rice cakes, konjac, tofu pouches, and a variety of house-made fish cakes. It's a hearty amount, plenty for two people to enjoy as a solid beer snack.

You simply dunk the fish cake skewers into the deep, rich broth in the table warmer. What I really liked is that the broth and fish cakes stay piping hot all the way to the end. The broth has a deep savory flavor that honestly pairs so well with soju, haha.

I fished out a plump, fully-stuffed tofu pouch with the tongs — so cute, ㅠㅠ. The tofu is really, really good. The sweet, deep broth soaks all the way into the tofu, so every bite is nutty, sweet, and salty all at once — delicious. If you go to this Beomgye bar, ordering the oden soup, their signature dish, is a must.

What does the signature sujigolbaengi taste like?

Next came Cheolgil Busanjip's signature specialty, sujigolbaengi (spicy marinated beef tendon and whelk), and it arrived looking spectacular. Spicy-sweet marinated vegetables, plump whelks, chewy beef tendon, and crispy fried dumplings — so generous. Even just the look and smell of it were mouthwatering.

I was satisfied to see big, plump whelks generously piled in. No fishy taste at all — just a wonderfully chewy texture. Combined with the crunchy cabbage salad and fresh sprouts, it tasted spicy yet clean.

The beef tendon, with its bouncy, chewy texture, was also served generously, and I honestly didn't expect it to work here, but it turned out to be quite the delicacy. The golden, crispy fried dumplings — well, no need to say, of course they're delicious, haha.

Which dish combination should you order at this Beomgye bar?

If you're torn on what to order at Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch, I'd recommend the oden soup plus sujigolbaengi combo. Piling the chewy whelk, tendon, and spicy vegetables onto a crispy fried dumpling and eating it all in one bite is pure happiness haha. The two dishes go really well together.

Cheolgil Busanjip, the Beomgye bar with a satisfying warm oden broth and a distinctive specialty snack. It's easy to chat comfortably under the cozy lighting, making it a great spot for a couple or friends. I'd recommend it as a Beomgye gathering spot that nails both the food and the atmosphere.
