Beomgye fish cake bar for round-two soju in Anyang: Cheolgil Busanjip

In short

Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch is an oden bar (fish cake bar) in the Beomgye area of Anyang, Gyeonggi, where the fish cakes simmer in a pot right at your table. Three of us got through five bottles of Daesun, the Busan soju, plus five orders of mochiri tofu and a fish cake platter with mul-tteok (rice cake skewer) in it. For a second-round bar in Beomgye, the hot broth and mochiri tofu at Cheolgil Busanjip make it the kind of place you keep coming back to.

Whenever we're drinking in Beomgye and someone asks where to go for round two, we somehow always end up at Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch haha.

We always say "let's try somewhere new" and then end up here again^^ But honestly, there just aren't that many places these days with a real oden bar (fish cake bar) atmosphere like this. And every single time we go, it's packed. "Full again?" we think — and then we go anyway lol.

Daesun soju in Beomgye? Busan's soju in Anyang

Another reason I love Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch is that they have Daesun, the Busan soju. That day too we naturally started with Daesun, and ended up finishing five bottles.

Daesun, the Busan soju, ordered at Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch

If you see Daesun in Beomgye, you basically have to order it, right? This isn't optional — it's the unspoken rule^^

Instead of our usual soju, putting one bottle of Daesun on the table suddenly makes it feel like we're in Busan, and the oden bar vibe gets even stronger haha. In the end, five bottles^^

Five empty bottles of Daesun soju

When we come here, we just naturally start with Daesun.

The fish cake platter at Cheolgil Busanjip is where every table starts

At Cheolgil Busanjip, the fish cake (odeng/eomuk) is simmered warm right at the table, so it's perfect for picking pieces out one by one while drinking. That's why ordering the fish cake platter here is non-negotiable.

Why? Because it's delicious^^ hahaha. From rice cake skewers to all kinds of fish cake, it's fun picking through the variety, and sipping the hot broth between bites makes it the perfect round-two snack.

Honestly, you could easily start here as your first stop without eating dinner beforehand and order plenty — but why do we always end up here as round two? haha

The real problem is the mochiri tofu: five orders in

Honestly, this is what I really wanted to talk about today. Order the mochi tofu at Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch. Order it twice. No — order it five times like we did^^ hahaha

There were three of us that day, and we ate five orders of mochi tofu. Doesn't that pretty much explain everything? Chewy yet soft, with a savory sauce and a little wasabi on top — oh man....

Chewy mochi tofu with a bite taken out

I love mochi tofu and order it pretty often when it's on the menu, but this is one of the best versions I've had out of everywhere I've tried it.

So every time we say "let's try something different this time at Cheolgil Busanjip," it ends up being another mochi tofu order. And another. And another^^ Have you ever seen three people eat five orders of it? Me neither, honestly haha

So when do we finally try the fire tteokbokki?

Looking at the Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch menu, there's so much I want to try — especially the spicy fire tteokbokki. Every time we say "next time, that one" and still haven't gotten to it haha

Menu of side dishes at Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch

There's a pretty wide variety of dishes, so you could easily start here as your first stop without dinner beforehand — but somehow we always end up here as round two. Why? Because the vibe is just that good haha

And the reason we never get to the spicy tteokbokki is pretty obvious too. When you're ordering mochi tofu five times, is there really any room left for another dish?^^ Next time I'll actually try it. Probably...haha

Why Cheolgil Busanjip is our regular second-round bar in Beomgye

Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch has dark wood tones, yellow lighting, and bar seats open to the street outside — exactly the kind of oden bar atmosphere that's perfect for a drink.

These days there are plenty of new bars popping up when you search around Beomgye, plenty of options too — but the fact that we keep choosing this place for round two, over and over... I mean, isn't that answer enough? haha

We went for fish cake, ended up eating five orders of mochi tofu, thoroughly finished off our Daesun, and walked out of our regular Beomgye spot^^

If you're looking for a Beomgye bar with good atmosphere instead of the usual generic pub — an izakaya vibe with hot fish cake and soju — I think I'll keep coming back to Cheolgil Busanjip Beomgye Branch. Especially if you like mochi tofu? Order one to start. You might just find yourself ordering more^^ haha

Next time it's really the spicy tteokbokki. If I can just get past the mochi tofu...haha
