Suji-gu monkfish stew restaurant, zero-spice agu-jjim: Nojak Jinseong

In short

Nojak Jinseong Agu-jjim Yongin Suji District Office Branch is a monkfish and seafood stew restaurant on Pungdeokcheon-ro 139beon-gil in Suji-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. Spice runs from level 0 (mild) up to level 4 (extreme buldak), and a level 0 agu-jjim (braised monkfish) in the small size with grilled bakdae (dried flatfish) and rice arrived with plump monkfish and a thick, savory sauce — too much to finish even at the small size. Nojak Jinseong is an easy pick for people who cannot eat spicy food, family dinners with kids, and work group meals near Suji District Office.

Hello! It's foodie Nizu haha

My fiancé and I really love agu-jjim (spicy braised monkfish) but hadn't had it in over a year, ㅠㅠ. The thing is, we both love agu-jjim but can't handle spicy food that well, so we kept wondering if there was a good agu-jjim place that isn't too spicy... and then I found one where you can actually adjust the spice level!! Craving that crunchy bean sprout, sea squirt, and monkfish-packed stew again, I visited Nojak Jinseong Agu-jjim Yongin Suji District Office Branch, a well-known spot near Suji District Office!!

Where is Nojak Jinseong Agu-jjim in Suji-gu, and where do you park?

Parking is available right in front of the building, but when we went it was full ㅠㅠ so we parked at Suji District Office instead haha

Entrance of Nojak Jinseong Agu-jjim

Inside Nojak Jinseong: partitioned seats and the self-serve side dish bar

A well-known spot near Suji District Office! The interior was spacious and kept really clean haha

Spacious, clean dining hall inside the restaurant

There were also private partitioned seats further inside haha

There was a self-serve bar with unlimited side dishes and a good variety of drinks too!

Once we sat down, the side dishes came out — silkworm pupae, it's been so long since I had that! haha And seaweed soup too!!

That seaweed soup was honestly such a hidden gem haha I kept going back for more!

Nojak Jinseong menu and how the 4 spice levels work

Here's the menu at Nojak Jinseong Agu-jjim!!

  • Hanwoo daechang agu-jjim (Korean beef intestine monkfish stew)
  • Agu-jjim small/medium/large
  • Seafood jjim small/medium/large
  • Mixed jjim (seafood + monkfish) medium/large/extra-large
  • Agu-nakji jjim (monkfish + octopus) small/medium/large
  • Boneless agu-jjim small/medium/large
  • Agu gonyi jjim (monkfish roe) small/medium/large
  • Cod cheek jjim small/medium/large

Spice can be adjusted from level 0 mild, level 1 Shin Ramyun spicy, level 2 Teumsae Ramyun spicy, level 3 Buldak Ramyun spicy, up to level 4 extreme Buldak spicy. So many options! Since we're both total spice wimps, we ordered level 0!!

You can also add extra gonyi (roe) or seafood, and there's a good variety of add-on noodles like udon or mandu (dumplings) if you want to customize haha. Rice can be plain or fried rice, but I wanted the retro combo of agu-jjim with plain white rice, so we ordered agu-jjim (small) with rice!!

Table set before the agu-jjim arrives

Grilled bakdae and a heaped bowl of rice

Oh right! The grilled bakdae (dried flatfish) was seriously so good ㅠ If you love grilled fish, definitely order this!!

A plate of golden grilled bakdae

The rice portion...! It's such a mountain that ordering just one would've been enough for both of us haha If I weren't dieting I would've finished it all….

A towering bowl of steamed rice

Zero-spice agu-jjim in the small size: how big is it, how does it taste?

Finally, today's star arrives!! The agu-jjim small — is this really the small size? It's so generous!!

It looks already cooked when it comes out, but they still fire up the burner haha and once it starts bubbling away…!

Look how plump the monkfish is ㅠㅠ There's nothing more disappointing than ordering agu-jjim and getting scrawny monkfish. That's never an issue at Nojak Jinseong Agu-jjim!!

A plump piece of monkfish held with chopsticks
Level 0 agu-jjim with bean sprouts and minari

Every single piece of monkfish is plump and packed with meat haha

Look at that white flesh ㅠㅠ it was seriously tender and chewy, sweet and savory — I ate it without even thinking haha The sauce was rich too, perfectly seasoned and sweet, honestly so good!! Being level 0, it wasn't spicy at all haha kids could probably eat this too!

The bean sprouts and minari (water dropwort) were plump too, and eating them with the monkfish was an amazing combo ㅠㅠ no wait, an addictive combo!

Even the sea squirts were plump! That pop of ocean flavor in your mouth made me wonder if I was at the sea... The portion was so huge we couldn't finish it all ㅠㅠ I wanted to take the rest home and eat it again tomorrow, on repeat ㅠㅠ

Who should eat at this Suji District Office monkfish stew restaurant?

Today I brought a review of Nojak Jinseong Agu-jjim Yongin Suji District Office Branch, a well-known Korean restaurant near Suji District Office haha. Even spice wimps like us could eat it, with spice levels ranging from 0 to 4, and level 0 was genuinely not spicy at all — kids could handle it too haha. The monkfish, sea squirts, bean sprouts, and minari were all clearly good quality, fresh and plump, so it was really delicious haha.

The rich, thick, sweet sauce on the agu-jjim was the best part at Nojak Jinseong Agu-jjim Yongin Suji District Office Branch! If you're having a family gathering or looking for a group dinner spot near Suji District Office, if you love agu-jjim but worry about the spice, or if you're after plump monkfish and seafood stew, I recommend this well-known spot near Suji District Office haha!
