Yeongdeungpo bar with free noodle refills and beef tteokbokki: Ho
In short
Ho Samchon Yeongdeungpo Main Branch is a Korean gastropub five minutes on foot from Exit 5 of Yeongdeungpo Station in Seoul. Three friends ordered cream jjamppong udon (21,900 won), woosamgyeop tteokbokki with thin-sliced beef belly (17,900 won) and flying fish roe rice balls (6,000 won) with extra cheese (2,000 won), and the staff boiled a second round of noodles once the first bowl was empty. The rice balls were a letdown, but the generous portions and warm service make Ho Samchon a solid pick for a group night out.

I had a dinner get-together with friends in Yeongdeungpo, so I dropped by Ho Samchon Yeongdeungpo Main Branch.

What is Ho Samchon Yeongdeungpo Main Branch like inside? Open kitchen, calm room
The entrance was a little unusual from the start — decorated cutely like an old-fashioned phone booth, which made walking in kind of fun. I got why it's a hot spot in Yeongdeungpo.
The interior felt clean and hygienic, and since the kitchen is open you can see everything, which built trust right away. Compared to other Yeongdeungpo bars, the atmosphere was calmer than I expected — perfect for a work dinner or a get-together, and great for chatting with friends over the meal.

At the time of our visit, one person was running the whole place, but the dishes still came out fast — and most of all, the owner was so kind that I left feeling really good about the meal.

What three of us ordered at Ho Samchon, and what it cost
- Main 1) Cream jjamppong udon (cream-style spicy seafood noodle soup) — ₩21,900
- Main 2) Woosamgyeop tteokbokki (beef brisket rice cakes) — ₩17,900
- Side) Flying fish roe rice balls — ₩6,000
- Topping) Extra cheese for tteokbokki — ₩2,000
The menu was so varied that even if a big group comes for a get-together, everyone can find at least one dish they'd want, haha.
Cream jjamppong udon: more milky ramyeon than cream sauce
The signature dish, cream jjamppong udon, made me picture a thick, rich cream sauce because of the name — but in reality the texture and broth flavor were closer to ramyeon (instant noodle soup) made with milk.

Still, it was really tasty — I liked how the flavor kept getting deeper as the broth kept boiling.

I wished there were a bit more bean sprouts, but the other toppings were generous so it was still satisfying. The three of us came for dinner and the noodles ran a little short, but they let us add more even after the dish had come out — and they boiled it fresh before bringing it over! I was so pleased, haha.

Crab, bacon, beef brisket, shrimp — the ingredients were varied and generous.
How spicy is the woosamgyeop tteokbokki? Adding cheese for 2,000 won
The wooassamgyeop tteokbokki was on the spicy side. One of my friends who can't handle spicy food said it was hot but kept eating it anyway because it was so good — the rice cakes were chewy and there was plenty of beef brisket.

Notably, there was almost none of that gamey smell frozen beef sometimes has, and the pepper was generous — right up my alley since I love pepper.

The cheese came separately, so we sprinkled and mixed it into the tteokbokki ourselves — it melted quickly since the dish was hot, and paired well with the spicy sauce.
Why the flying fish roe rice balls disappointed
The flying fish roe rice balls were a little disappointing.

They used laver flakes made from parae (green laver) instead of regular roasted seaweed flakes, which gave it a slightly soggy texture, and there wasn't much roe inside either, so compared to the other dishes we didn't reach for it much.
That said, the main dishes were so generous in portion that overall we still left completely full.
Is Ho Samchon worth it near Yeongdeungpo Station? Final verdict

Overall the portions were generous and the food quality was solid for a bar menu — as three friends who came for an actual dinner, we were really satisfied.

Above all, the menu was so diverse that I thought it'd be a great pick for a bigger group of friends or a work dinner, since everyone can find something to their taste without worry.

I also liked that the place wasn't too loud, so we could chat comfortably while eating. The taste and portions were good, but honestly, the friendly service is what stuck with me the most.

If you're near Yeongdeungpo Station looking for a Yeongdeungpo bar to eat and drink comfortably with friends, give Ho Samchon Yeongdeungpo Main Branch a try!
