Today's post is an honest review of Sinbok Myeongwan Gangnam, a spot I visited near Gangnam Station when I was craving Chinese food or dumplings. I'd walked past this place a bunch of times and heard they do noodles, dumplings, and rice bowls really well, so I finally went in to check it out!!

What is Sinbok Myeongwan Gangnam like inside?
Walking into Sinbok Myeongwan Gangnam, the space overall felt clean and well organized. There were quite a few people eating solo, and the food came out fast with a good table turnover, so it was easy to eat comfortably. Totally recommend it for a solo meal near Gangnam Station!

What I ordered at Sinbok Myeongwan: xiaolongbao and Kung Pao chicken rice bowl
Looking over the menu at Sinbok Myeongwan, I decided I had to try the classic xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), and for the main dish I ordered the Kung Pao chicken rice bowl! There were tons of noodle and rice dish options too. Along with dim sum and rice bowls, the menu had a good variety of noodle dishes like beef noodle soup and knife-cut noodles, and watching other tables eat theirs, the broth looked deep and the noodles looked wonderfully chewy — I was kind of tempted haha.

The free sides: peanuts, jjachai and egg soup
For basic side dishes, they gave us peanuts, jjachai, and egg soup. I don't usually eat jjachai, but this was actually tasty. The side dishes and seasoning weren't overdone, and felt just right alongside the meal. When I needed something clean and pickle-like in between bites of the rice bowl, the jjachai helped reset my palate 🤩

How spicy is the Kung Pao chicken rice bowl?
The Kung Pao chicken rice bowl came with tender chicken, vegetables, and nuts stir-fried in a red sauce, all served on top of rice. The chicken, which could easily turn out dry, was actually really tender, and the nuttiness of the fried peanuts paired beautifully with the sweet-and-spicy sauce over rice. The seasoning wasn't overly sharp or spicy, so it was easy to mix everything together and eat without feeling weighed down. The portion of chicken was generous too, so the ratio to rice felt just right! 🙆🏻♀️

How juicy was the xiaolongbao at Sinbok Myeongwan?
They arrived still steaming, and just the sight of them made my mouth water 🤓 The wrapper wasn't too thick and was steamed moist and just right. As everyone knows, since xiaolongbao are too hot to eat right away, the rule is to set one on a spoon, tear the wrapper slightly, and sip the broth pooled inside first. I took a sip of the broth — it was clean without being greasy, with a deep, rich meaty aroma that made it really refreshing and delicious. There was zero gamey smell from the meat, and a savory flavor filled my mouth.

I accidentally burst one with my chopsticks, but the broth inside was still generous..! Taking a bite of the slightly sweet-and-spicy Kung Pao chicken rice bowl, then popping in a clean, savory xiaolongbao, I felt like the overall menu combination worked really well together. The food quality was consistent, and the restaurant's cleanliness and staff service were on point, so I could eat comfortably the whole time. If you're looking for a Chinese restaurant near Gangnam Station for a filling, proper meal that isn't too heavy, Sinbok Myeongwan Gangnam is worth stopping by. The xiaolongbao broth was satisfying and the rice bowl was hearty, so next time I'm planning to try more dim sum or their other signature noodle dishes!

Is Sinbok Myeongwan Gangnam worth a return solo meal near Gangnam Station?
Sinbok Myeongwan Gangnam's location right near Gangnam Station makes it easy to get to, and since the food doesn't take long to come out, it's really optimized for a quick solo meal during busy hours. The food quality and finish feel high relative to the price, so it seems like a place I'd keep coming back to whenever I want a reliably good, filling Chinese meal in the Gangnam area without any stress. If you're craving clean, brothy dumplings or a sweet-and-spicy rice bowl combo, it could be a good spot to check out at least once!💖
