Bangi-dong Italian restaurant, sunset window seats and jazz: Allegro

In short

Allegro is an Italian dining restaurant on the third floor of a building in Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, near Songpanaru Station, where live jazz runs in two sets from 7:30pm while you eat. On a Saturday evening date, the writer shared prosciutto potato salad, mushroom cream potato gnocchi, amatriciana and sous-vide pork shoulder steak, all seasoned lightly enough to stay easy on the stomach through the whole meal. Between the sunset window seat and the jazz, Allegro is a Jamsil date spot worth going back to.

This time I went to Allegro, an Italian dining restaurant in Bangi-dong famous for its pasta.

On a Saturday evening, I'd heard you could watch a jazz performance with your partner while enjoying great pasta and steak, and I'd been curious about this place, so my expectations were high. Among restaurants in Songpa, the live jazz performance angle was especially appealing.

Honest review of Allegro's steak and pasta

Steak and pasta spread ordered at Allegro

What I ordered was the sous-vide pork shoulder steak (₩33,000), prosciutto potato salad (₩18,000), mushroom cream potato gnocchi (₩24,000), and amatriciana (₩19,000).

Even dropping one pasta or the gnocchi, this would be a generous amount for two people to share.

Four dishes from Allegro laid out on the table

Prosciutto potato salad, 18,000 won

First out was the prosciutto potato salad, with a light layer of yogurt sauce underneath, topped with potato, prosciutto, and dried cherry tomatoes. A hint of spicy paprika powder was added, so it wasn't overwhelming — sweet, with the yogurt's tang, the prosciutto's saltiness, and the potato's crunchy texture all coming together nicely.

Mushroom cream potato gnocchi, 24,000 won

The mushroom cream potato gnocchi nailed that crisp-outside, chewy-inside texture gnocchi is known for, and the cream sauce wasn't overpowering, with finely chopped mushrooms boosting the flavor even more.

Sous-vide pork shoulder steak, 33,000 won

The main dish, the sous-vide pork shoulder steak, was the most tender and juicy pork shoulder steak I've had recently.

It was cooked evenly all the way through, tender enough that the knife glided through easily, and the portion was generous too.

Amatriciana, 19,000 won

The last dish, amatriciana, had a tomato-sauce base with a slightly spicy finish, which played the role of cutting through the richness and oiliness of the other dishes.

Overall, the seasoning wasn't heavy-handed, so unlike the usual experience of eating out where strong flavors upset my stomach, at Allegro my stomach felt comfortable the whole meal.

If you want to enjoy everything from pasta to steak in one go in Bangi-dong, I'd recommend Allegro, where you can catch a jazz performance too.

It's also a solid date course, so I'd definitely go back.
