Weekend clam hot pot with parents in a room seat, Yeouido, Seoul

In short

Gaetbeol-ui Jogae Yeouido Main Branch is a clam hot pot restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Geukdong VIP Building, near Exit 1 of Yeouido (National Assembly) Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Three adults, visiting on a weekend with parents when most Yeouido spots were closed, ordered the small (2-person) giant clam hot pot with kkomak bibimbap (cockle rice bowl) and added kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) noodles, and even the small size arrived piled high enough to fill all three. With plenty of room seats and partitioned 4-person tables, it works equally well for family meals and work dinners.

Weekends in Yeouido are always way too quiet, and most good restaurants are closed, so I'm often stuck wondering where to go. This time, I discovered a new spot with my parents near Yeouido's National Assembly Station.

Exit 1 of National Assembly Station, Gaetbeol-ui Jogae Yeouido Main Branch

There are two Gaetbeol-ui Jogae branches in Yeouido, and this time I visited the main branch, located in the Geukdong Building near Exit 1 of National Assembly Station!

Entrance of Gaetbeol-ui Jogae Yeouido Main Branch on the 2nd floor of the Geukdong VIP Building

Head up to the 2nd floor of the building and this is the setup that greets you. For Yeouido, this counts as a pretty spacious place, and most seats are 4-person tables. I always feel more comfortable eating at a big table, so this part was very satisfying for me.

Room seats and partitioned layout

There are also room seats, so group gatherings or more private meals are possible too.

The inside is neatly divided with partitions, which was nice because you can't really hear the conversations at the next table.

Order by kiosk, menu on the table

There's a menu posted right on the table so you can check it immediately, and since the main menu here is so clear-cut, there wasn't much to agonize over.

Ordering is done through the kiosk.

A self-bar with even clam-shaped bowls

Fitting for a Yeouido clam hot pot spot, even the self-bar bowls were cute clam shapes, haha. They were stacked generously so it was easy to just grab what you needed.

The self-bar was well stocked with side dishes too — kimchi, wasabi, and more were all there for the taking, which made things feel generous.

Eating the provided barley rice together with the yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) is the best combo ever.

Full marks for setting out doenjang (soybean paste) to go with the barley rice too.

What three adults ordered

  • Giant clam hot pot, small (2-person)
  • Kkomak bibimbap (cockle rice bowl)
  • Added kalguksu noodles

And finally, the star of the show — the steamed clam pot arrives. The pot is set in the center of the table, and the owner comes back after a while to prep it for you personally. So you basically just get to sit back, chat, and wait — that's it! Honestly, since three adults were dining, I secretly worried the small size might be too small.

Was the small (2-person) size enough for 3 adults?

The moment the lid came off, I realized my worry had been completely unfounded, haha. Photos can't even capture the real size — the portion was massive. Such a happy amount of food.

Giant clam hot pot piled with scallops, mussels, and blue crab

Scallops, mussels, cockles, shrimp, blue crab, squid, and more — at a glance, both the quantity and variety were huge. It felt like they'd bought a whole wholesale-market sack of mixed shellfish and just dumped it all in, lol.

It's probably one of the most satisfying, filling meals I've had lately. It's not in the photo, but we also ordered the added kalguksu noodles — and it wasn't just piled with clams, there were plenty of vegetables too, so the broth was refreshingly spicy-savory, just like at a dedicated kalguksu place.

A mountain of clams that never seemed to shrink no matter how much we ate. Eating with my parents, we kept saying the same thing:

We definitely have to come back for dinner next time and have some soju~

The broth was refreshing and delicious enough to make you crave soju on its own. Apparently you can also choose a spicy version of the clam hot pot broth base when ordering — I'm planning to try the spicy broth next time.

Fish cake and blue crab piled on top of the giant clams

There was even fish cake on top of the giant clams, and my mom, who loves seafood, was thrilled. The blue crab inside was packed with meat too, so there was nothing to waste — every ingredient was quality. For office workers nearby, with all the tables and huge portions, this also seems like a great spot for a work dinner.

Mozzarella cheese served alongside the clam hot pot

Mozzarella cheese belongs on the scallops

They also give you mozzarella cheese, and since I've been let down by restaurant cheese quality plenty of times before, I tried it without much expectation — but whether it's the quality of cheese they use, it was incredibly savory and rich. Personally, pulling a stretch of cheese onto a scallop is my number one combo.

Taste and portion of the kkomak bibimbap

The kkomak bibimbap we added wasn't spicy or salty either — it had a mild, sweet-spicy flavor, making it a nice change of pace whenever the clams started to feel a bit repetitive. The portion of bibimbap was also generous by our family's standards, so overall everything felt really filling.

Thoughtful details, right down to the counter

On the way out after the meal, I checked out the counter and found it stocked with such thoughtful items — mouthwash, floss, even dessert candy. The owner had been attentive and kind with explanations throughout the meal, and seeing this level of care made me want to come back 200%.

If you're looking for a good restaurant near Yeouido's National Assembly area, I highly, highly recommend this place.
